So, I finally finished chapter 1 on my Sith Sorc last night. I’m an alt-aholic so I kept making other characters, getting them to around 20th, and starting others.
A few comments on the Legacy “system”:
1 surname per account per server. WTF is up with that? My surname for my pure dark-side Sith Sorc doesn’t make sense when applied to my light-side leaning cyborg bounty hunter. I understand the idea of a legacy, but there are way better ways to present it. A unique surname per character along with a tag (similiar to a guild tag) would seem to work better.
Since the legacy is a surname, and that legacy is unique, it also causes problems. My wief and I play MMOs together and she’s been big into us having the same surnames since the EQ days for characters we play together. But we can’t have the same surname due to the “unique” issue. Again, I completely understand wanting the legacy to be unique so people can be identified by their own legacy, but again, using a surname for this seems wrong.
The lack of the fully legacy system also feels…bad. I would rather it not exist until it’s done. “Your Legacy is now unlocked! Let me tell you, there will be some cool things here. Just wait, it’s going to be awesome. Unique character customization options, unique skills, you’ll love it. Today? No, you won’t get that today. Today you’ll get the same surname for all your characters! We promise though, you’re going to love this whenever we get it done. Trust us”.
On a non-legacy rant, they really need to fix the orange armor system. As pointed out already, there is no real carrot for loot anymore. I have orange boots, helm, chest, legs, and gloves at level 31. And they all came from drops or commendation vendors. There is 0 reason to do armortech or synthweaving, other than for fashion-oranges. It also makes Cybertech almost a mandatory tradeskill if you want to keep your armor up to date but don’t want to spend a fortune on the terribad GTN.
Honestly, the orange system should have been limited to weapons, chest, legs, and helm. Or, better yet, having a fashion item interface similiar to EQ2 or WoW transmorgs.
