this dev post scares me

General Discussion -> I think patch 1.1 is going to force me out :(

Congrats on the 50.

Your server isn’t ‘dead’ by any means, but it’s a lower population server than some others. The good news is, the population is growing daily as more people buy the game and get online (we can see the growth). However, you’re right in that the number of level 50 players is going to be small and won’t increase dramatically in a short period of time.

Cross-server queuing for PvP is something that the development team wants to happen, but it’s not going to be available in the near future. In the interim, you might want to try re-rolling a new character, either on your own server or another server (perhaps a PvP server?). On your own server, you’ll be able to PvP all the way from L10 to L49 without any issue, and by the time you get close to the cap you can see how the L50 Warzone ‘scene’ is. On another server - especially a PvP server - you may find a more PvP-centric community.
really?

They know it’s an issue on small pop server, and they don’t plan any fix on their side but instead telling their customer to abandon their character and re-roll if they want to do warzone pvp?

Well I’m glad they aren’t letting a loud but ultimately minority group drive their development efforts.

they are changing the system to for the loud but ultimately minority group, since only people who do warzone actually give a shit about the change, it doesn’t affect anyone else.

I’m not familiar with exactly how its structured now, but I assume its divided into level ranges. It would probably suck to hit 41 and then be up against a crowd that is 99% level 50’s. That is likely to effect more people across all the servers than those on the low pop servers. It sounds like the lesser of two evils.

Cross server PvP would be a pretty big development effort just to make a small group happy. I’m sure they have bigger fish to fry like customizable UI’s and lots of other issues that effect everyone.

PvP in this game is a joke, as it was in wow. That is my completely uninformed, not yet level capped opinion!

In all honesty… Rerolling on a higher pop server is a completely reasonable fix. Go where the action is! Seems like a no brainer.

you get boost to lvl 50 stats right now in warzone, actually my commando have better than lvl 50 stats at lvl 10 because lvl 50 commando doesn’t have 5.5k armor.

the warzone patch change so lvl 50s can only be matched again other 50, and 10-49 still in the same bracket. basically instead waiting 5 minutes for a warzone queue, now I’m waiting much longer. Instead pushing out a flawed patch, how about holding on to that patch until you can solve the issue that’s going to cause by the patch.

Also their rep telling customer to basically shove off until the shit is fix is pretty unreasonable. I don’t want to re-roll and transfer server, I like my character, I already put time in to my character.

I can’t believe people actually think it’s reasonable. that’s like if they decided to server merge by deleting all characters on both server and then having player create new character on the new merged server.

Knowing that, you’re right. The change is premature at best. In a few months it would make more sense once the population is weighted to the level 50 side.

It’s not like that at all.

As you’re well aware, 50s who have put any time at all into getting gear DECIMATE lower level characters with no chance at all. It’s ridiculous. Separating 50s into their own bracket makes total sense, and I’m surprised anybody would argue otherwise.

Of course it’s going to cause an issue on servers with lower populations of 50s. This will be resolved as time goes on and more 50s emerge.

Eventually cross-server pvp will fix it even more, as the pool of players will increase further.

If you’re saying that the current situation (50s obliterating non-50s in WZs) is better than 50s having longer queues on servers until more people hit 50, then you’re wrong. It might be better for you, as one of the people who regularly stomp other players who have no chance, but that doesn’t mean it’s a better decision for the players overall.

PVP has a lot of problems, but only one REALLY bugs me (PVP is MMOs is a joke all around, so the other things I’ll list later don’t bother me so much), so I’ll lead with that.

PVP loot rewards are random. I’ll say that again. PVP loot rewards are random. It’s all about luck. I can’t even imagine why they thought this was a good idea. Some folks get lucky and are reasonably geared in a couple days, others spend weeks and are still far behind. It’s infuriating.

Now, let’s look at some other problems.

 1. Population imbalance is even more extreme than WoW, leading to queue issues

 2. Classes are woefully imbalanced in PVP.

 3. There’s probably too much crowd control going around.

 4. PVP gear is retardedly powerful. Imagine resilience from WoW, but it ALSO boosts your damage so it double dips. Also, it scales insanely.

 5. Organized and randoms are not separated.

 6. The most frequently played map, Huttball, is too complicated for most randoms, and is dominated by cheese in organized groups due to certain movement abilities and class stacking.

 7. The warzone maps, in my opinion, are boring as hell. There’s no epic feel to them. Say what you want about the mechanics of Alterac Valley, but that map feels like a PLACE, and not a deathmatch pit.

 8. World PVP basically doesn’t exist even on world PVP servers.

Reasonable observations. I have found some world PvP, on Tatooine, Alderaan, and Quesh mostly, so far, but not a great deal. The maps seem more designed to keep Republic and Imperial players segregated, than to bring them together in common hunting areas. But there is some action once in a while, just not enough for my taste. Nothing like EQ2 PvP, where leveling was a challenge particularly if you were on the underdog side.

There’s a decent amount of world PvP on Voss because there seem to be a lot of common questing areas and the main city area is shared by both factions. It’s kind of what I was expecting when I rolled on a PvP server but instead you have to wait until the early 40s to see it.

I was ganked last night.

I was doing daily PvE quests on Ilum and grouped with another player who, unbeknownst to me, was flagged for PvP. At one point, my companion healed the other player which in turn automatically flagged me.

We finished the group quest and go our separate ways. A few minutes later, I’m riding my speeder to the location of my next daily quest and not really paying attention when I’m suddenly knocked off, stunned, and in combat. It takes me a few seconds to realize what exactly had happened when I notice a Sith warrior is beating on me with a lightsaber. I was down to about half health before I even get an attack off. Naturally, I lost, but thankfully the ganker wasn’t a total prick and left me alone after that instead of corpse-camping me.

All in all, it was only a minor annoyance and wasted maybe two minutes of my time, but it’s for shit like this that I’ll never play on a PvP server. I realize having to be on one’s toes looking out for potential ganks at all times is exciting to some people, but for me it just gets in the way of the part of the game I actually want to play.

There’s been plenty of world PvP on Tatooine for both of my characters (Rakatan Mind Maze). Both sides seem to have the same quest points, so there’s a lot of conflict. Random ganking, corpse-camping leading to impromptu retaliation squads and lynch mobs, roaming bands of brief but intense chaos – lots of fun.

 1. lvl 49 obliterate lvl 10 same as lvl 50 obliterating lvl 49, so the new solution of lvl 10-49 bracket doesn’t solve that imbalance at all.

 2. the only reason the gap between lvl 50 and 10-49 is the expertise rating, they should have add expertise rating to lvl 20 and 40 pvp gear. that would have balance the game much better than locking 50 out from the bigger bracket.

 1. 49s are not even close to 50s because
 2. Expertise is way too good of a stat and only the 50s have it

that’s why I said add expertise to non-50 pvp gear was a better solution than cutting out 50s.

I agree with that, I was mostly debating this point:
“lvl 49 obliterate lvl 10 same as lvl 50 obliterating lvl 49”

I don’t think that’s true. I’ve been at the top of the leaderboards with characters as low as level 12 but it’s mostly because I was playing against people who weren’t 50. Once you get the 50s in there it’s not even the same game.

I haven’t played any PvP yet, but do 50’s really get so many more bonuses/powers that they are unbalanced?

If everyone has their level set to 50, but without any of the higher level powers during PvP I find it hard to believe that the rewards for that one extra level are that much of a bonus. Is the main difference just in the gear available?

I know for sorc, at once I get this build, I can dominate pretty much anyone I see in pvp. that build is available at lvl 42(as early as lvl 40).

certain class that doesn’t rely on weapon attack are really weak at lvl 10.

Yes, this is annoying. They go to all the trouble of making you walk to a hangar (i.e. they don’t abstract that bit) and I can accept that (I too enjoy seeing my ship, and I don’t mind travelling through the spaceports, etc., as I find it immersive, I even WALK sometimes) but then they automatically make you take off.

Why can’t I go back to my ship to (notionally) potter about with a few things, like I could in KOTOR, and THEN go to space when I want to? Or just potter about in the ship and go back out on to the planet?
