GW2 wont be out for a while, though, right? Personally, I’m waiting for The Secret World which hopefully will be my go-to-mmo!
I don’t know when, but I think ~6 months is a fair estimate.
It could suck mightily, but of all the “big MMOs” getting attention - it has always seemed the most impressive to me. There’s something about how the developers are speaking about it - that makes me think they’re truly passionate. Very unlike most of what I heard about SWtOR during development.
ArcheAge is the one I’m really hoping for, but it’s not clear if it will ever get released outside of Asia - and it’s so ambitious, it can hardly truly succeed :)

Agree 100% with your feelings on the Powertech. The Mercenary is a bit more fun but suffers from some of the same issues. Still, the dual wielding is pretty cool and the story is decent enough.
I thought a fire-based Powertech might be interesting but it’s really not. How can you make a flamethrowing class dull? Gah.

it’s really slow and short range. my lvl 27 powertech is pyro.
merc is really fun because you can heal as well clear a group of enemies really fast with spray fire thingie. Also the seeking missile hurts like hell, it’s like of the best armor debuff in the game.

Man, I love my Powertech tank (currently 41).
Death from Above to Jet Charge, to Flame Sweep for AE gathering is a GREAT combo that never ceases to make me smile. Rocket punch is one of the most artistically rewarding abilities I’ve seen in most games (FWOOMP! the sound is great), next only to DFA. Railgun is great, and with Ion Cannon can always force trigger it off Rocket Punch.
Some of the pre-10 stuff that is clearly merc focused I’ve de-prioritized in my rotation (like missile blast and unload) especially as I add new abilities (such as Heat Blast), and it has felt better. Missile blast uses too much heat due to the small AE component, so I’ll only use that if most of my other abilities are on CD and if I haven’t just used Heat Blast.
Disclaimer: I constantly duo with this character with my wife, a healing Sorc. I’ve never played him solo.

I call either BS or extremely lucky reverse engineering. I’ve spent 3 levels trying to get just the blue schematic for some enhancements. The idea of crafting 20 or more 30 minute blue enhancements to get a purple schematic while still levelling seems insane.
The only crafting/gathering skill I bothered maxing was slicing. Everything else seemed utterly pointless while levelling, because of easy-to-get mods through commendation vendors - and the GTM.
BTW, I have 2M credits at level 47 and 1.5 million is post slicing nerf. I’ve done nothing but slice and sell missions on GTM.
The orange gear seems incredibly complex and pointless in terms of what it actually does. Appearance tab would have worked much better - and I think it would be a million times easier to design.
Also, the actual gear statistics are very boring - and the game is in serious need of exciting “procs/effects” on high-end loot.
I’m with you on the appearance tab, DKD. The people who care most about appearances (in a cosmetic sense not a bragging rights sense) are primarily social players and roleplayers. We’ve seen appearance tabs in so many MMOs, and these days even at launch, it’s just kind of a pain in the butt not having them here. You find stuff that finally looks right on your character and then you outlevel it. Even with the oranges it takes credits and time to keep them up to spec and, frankly, it’s not like there’s an amazing assortment available for sale either.
The pleasure people get from designing an original and striking look is from seeing people stop to look at them or getting random compliments (it does happen - mainly in City of Heroes - but I’ve gotten that in other places too). It’s not from doing all the irritating grunt work to get to that point.
Anyhow, if it weren’t for the stories and characterizations I’d already be over the game. And I’m not sure how well having to retread a bunch of content on future playthroughs with new alts is going to work out. Maybe the Legacy bonus experience system will speed those alt-grinds up so that I can skip some of the redundant content and focus more on the career missions. We’ll see.
I am finding myself drifting back to my two lifetime subs in LoTRO and STO though. LoTRO’s naturalism and RP friendly nature is still appealing and I’ve Legendary weapons to work on as well as some new content. And I really do enjoy STO’s “dive in and do a variety of stuff” approach as well as the high levels of character, ship and crew customization. There’s a sea of player generated content there I’ve missed while sidetracked too.
After I was forced to move to US server in LotRO and they didn’t manage to transfer my characters - I’m very, very through with that game. Likely would have been, anyway, as I’m an anti-shop fan in a big way.
Sad, as I LOVED the game and the concept originally - especially the Tolkien world and atmosphere.
There are no current MMOs for me, really.
GW2 and ArcheAge are far away - so I’ll have to wait, I guess.

You should think twice before accusing someone of lying Aceris. Here is a partial list of my purple recipes:

Personally I prefer the Orange equipment to an appearance tab. The appearance tab just feels very disconnected – “yes my appearance tab shows this forester’s cap with a feather on it, whereas I’m actually wearing a steel Burgonet helmet.”
The other great thing about Orange Gear is it allows me to customize to my stats. I can choose exactly how much I want to balance Defense vs. Shield vs. Critical damage.
Yes, it’s true. There are good aspects to it, I just think it’s very, very messy.
I can’t help but think there has to be a smarter way to allow customization of gear, rather than the insane amount of mods attainable in an insane amount of ways.
It just seems SO needlessly fiddly.

Well, my wife and I finally caved in and picked this up yesterday. We just can’t resist a shiny new MMORPG, even though she much prefers the fantasy setting over sci-fi.
The install and setup went very smoothly. From the time we opened our boxes to the time we were in game was not more than 90 minutes or so, maybe less.
Now I need to catch up on class and crafting details to figure out what the heck I want to play. For now, we both made Inquisitors and she will most likely be a sorcerer. I may also as I normally like to heal and it sounds like they can do that also. Off to do some more research!
It might make more sense ofr 1 of you to go the Inquisitor Assassin route (whether tank spec or not) and the other the Inquisitor Sorceror (for the healing). You would have a wider variety of skills at your disposal. Or maybe focus one sorceror on the damage tree and the other on healing. I just don’t know how complementary 2 sorcerors are.
Alternatively, you can also go the Sith Warrior route. They start in the same area as Sorcerors.

Plus if one of you goes Sith Warrior, you can see both the stories. If you both go Inquisitor you’ll have to split up before each story section or sit through the story sections twice.
Or you could have one go Inquisitor Darkside and one go Inquisitor Lightside sit through the stories twice and let us know if there really is much of a difference in terms of how things turn out.
I love pvp, even if I’m not very good at it, but I do not do it much anymore. I can handle not being able to take down level 50s easily, but I cannot handle the 20 minutes or so it takes to load the planet where I came from back up. As it is, I only queue up for pvp now when I am on the fleet station or on my ship as those load times are a little more gentle.

The planet load times are rather painful on my rig, especially for the bigger planets like Tatooine and Alderaan. However, IMO it’s totally worth it for having no loading anywhere within a planet. That part I really love.

Easy tiger, I didn’t say you were lying. When I said BS I was referring to the way you were skating over how much time was required to get those purple schematics - i think it’s more time than is required to completely outlevel them. (which was idrisz’s original point).
I’ve been trying semi-seriously to keep myself in blue crafted artificing items, and it barely works if you focus on levelling and do crafting as a simultaneous activity. That was the point that seemed under discussion.
I note you don’t discuss your methodology, which I suspect involves lots of cash from either slicing or selling your wares on the galatic market and/or time spent semi-afk sending companions off to craft/collect stuff. Can the dedicated crafter succeed? Yes. But that’s not what this was about.

Hmm, good points. I guess without knowing how the skill trees work I was thinking we could have one of us focus on healing and one on DPS and still fill two decent roles in a group. I also didn’t realize the Assassin could be a tank spec. That would help although my wife doesn’t really like to be counted on as a healer even though she is good at it (like with her Rift Chloromancer).

Based on my very limited experience, any group of two players can do well questing, maybe even questing on elites area.
Is for flashpoints or some hard dungeon mob that you need at least one tank. Two players can spawn two healing companions, and one of the two players can be healing focused. So 2 humans can play with 3 healers. But a team with zero tanks will always have zero tanks. Nobody holding agro. Mobs interrupting long casts. Wipes.
Perhaps playing jedi knight is too boring to sacrifice bug questing only to be a healty flaspoint team.
