Seriously, eh. There still seems to be a lot of unrealism about the release date in spite of how cut and dried the recent EA earnings call seemed.
In the summer we’re ramping up our beta campaign and through September, then we’ll be in a position to give our hard ship date . . . Focus is strongly on Q3 but maintained the guidance range. We have high expectations for the potential for the product, we want to be able to, if there’s an issue to change the ship date. We’re focused on driving hard towards Q3, until something is certain we’re not announcing it. 4-8 weeks before launch is typical for a hard ship date.
Assuming none of this is written deceptively - and I doubt they’re writing earnings copy to confuse SWTOR fanboys - that sounds like a release date announcement will be made at the end of September, 4-8 weeks before launch itself. And in terms of selling boxes I’d think a post-Thanksgiving lauch makes the most sense.
Happy to be in the Republic guild that Rasputin started. I can’t go Sith with my first character.

I somehow totally missed it. Applied as well.

I am in as well- at some point in the silly ramblings in the app form, I did put that I was walter from here- just to make sure no one thought that when it asked what I was looking for in a guild and I put love that someone would think that I am some type of weird emotional stalker looking for internet friends…
Just to clarify. Although my name might show up as tehru…I get confused.
Applied to the eeeeevil guild…
Well, I can strike this MMO from the list.
Bioware is forcing everyone in beta to play PvP. That’s akin to forcing me to attend a Tea Party rally*. I have been in many beta tests and never has anyone forced their testers to participate in one particular play style.
The kind of arrogance that takes in incomprehensible to me and I for one refuse to play any games from developers who think this is acceptable.
*(For those who don’t get it, that’s a snark, as the level of rational discourse with (many) pvp players is about on part with the average Tea Party follower.)

What, you’re not going to buy this game, because as a beta tester you don’t want to test something?

You don’t think its fair that Bioware themselves be the judge of what needs to be tested by their beta testers? Or did you just want a free game?

I don’t think he’s a beta tester.
How on earth can I test pvp when I have absolutely zero interest in it?
And no I’m not buying the game because I don’t want to test pvp I’m not buying the game because a developer who thinks that is acceptable is not a developer whose games I want to play.
I don’t pvp because of the game play, I don’t because pvp players are by and large irrational caricatures of human beings.
Just to address this question, of course they are the best judge. But if they feel they don’t have enough testers for actionable feedback for pvp play, then they should get more testers - not force those of us who don’t, won’t or can’t pvp to provide meaningless or more probably no feedback.

Again - what isn’t acceptable? - That Bioware sets terms on the beta testing, asking you to test the things they need testing?
It’s not a free game for you to have fun with
Edit: you answered above this post, not going to ninja edit. You are of course free to not want to test something, but it hardly warrents expressions of annoyance in the level you describe here, since well…You haven’t paid for the game and are just there to help them develop the game they want to make. Not to have a grand ol’ time playing the game for free.
The game itself certainly won’t mandate pvp, and I expect this is just a reflection of the fact that there’s one beta server (and not, say, a pve beta server and a pvp one.)
Also if you got into beta and you aren’t using it over this object it is likely the denizens of this thread may surreptitiously murder you and assume your identity.
EDIT: Alright, I get what you’re saying. But basically, I don’t think you’re realizing that you’re a bit of an outlier in being not just anti-PVP but PVP-allergic and PVP-offended. And again, being in a beta under whatever circumstances is generally considered a conditional privilege. You’re pissed off - to the extent of disliking the developers and not wanting the game - for an early gameplay experience that hundreds of PVE-centric, PVP-averse players would be thrilled to have, warts and all.
If they need testing on pvp play, why would they want pve players to provide that feedback? Being in a beta test doesn’t mitigate the behavior of pvp players. I’ve been in many betas, none of those ever thought it was a good idea. There’s probably a reason for that - players who are not interested in a particular game play style aren’t going to do it - that’s why you get enough players to participate to ensure a cross section of feedback.
Is Bioware somehow better than every other mass market MMO? What kind of precedent does this set for their live game?

Maybe have a urgent need to beta test the PvP. “Beta tests” are for that, or sould be for that, to beta test things, and you are a beta tester. You may ignore that, but you are into a beta, you at least must “pretend” to follow then to that. Really you are on the wrong here. If you don’t really want to participate, just logoff and login wen it is more your thing… you will be selfish, but you are a free man.
You are on the very wrong comming here and whinnin about that.
Heh true that. I’ll probably give it to a friend who doesn’t mind ::P
In which case hey, good on ya.
If you liked the base game I’d maybe reconsider the “Bioware sucks too much to do business with because of this beta” thing. I don’t think a lot of companies would meet the “don’t mess with my beta gameplay” standard.

I enjoy hong ME posts very much. Please, provoke him.
Also, your entire premise is flawed for reasons we can’t get into here. Perhaps you should visit the tester forums (unless you’re that guy, in which case: haven’t you been ridiculed enough?)
