Same server would be great. I was in the Drop Bears for a bit and then the Horde guild and always wanted to go against the other Qt3’ers

I think that this video completely killed whatever enthusiasm I had left for SWTOR.

Ppl complaining about not being able to have their arms sliced off by lightsabers, just like in the movies, is funny.

I have to admit the gamescon footage was a big lackluster, but the thing to note is that it was the first stage of a multi-step battle (and if you watched until the end, you noticed that they were just about to get wiped out in the second stage).

Granted, the sum total of all videos I’ve seen so far do make the action appear pretty un-actiony. There seems to be lots of standing around.

I do hope a permanently-amputatable-arms toggle is implemented for the true believers. Presumably after the second time it happens the character will do less combat and more non-arm-intensive tradeskills.

MMO gameplay footage looks confusing and insipid. Raids even more so, if anything. Go watch youtube videos of raids from an MMO you haven’t played. Whee.

The game will look better if mobs change to melee weapons wen are at mele distance. Maybe even circle strafe around the agroed player.

:-/

Indeed.

I believe Battle Chess on the AMiGA back in early 90s felt more “Actionesque” and Immersive than what I’ve seen from Star Wars the OLD republic.

Edit: Caveat is that the game might focus on other aspects than “meaningful combat” (remember pve fights in Lineage 2 felt right) so maybe you’ll ignore it when you are playing.

Edit2: The GW2 video had me sold when he said “raid Encounter SCALES to number of participants”… As a 25 man guild struggling to get 25 people for raids 4 times a week in WOW this would be a godsend! I been requesting such a feature for years, looks like GW2 listened.

Like the GW2 video linked in the comments? :)

The World of KOTOR footage is abysmal.

Ok, that was a cool, CRPG/ARPG-looking encounter; good for them. I would, however, refer back to every other MMO raid fight ever, and how absurd they look to a non-player.

That GW2 vid looks great, but I wonder if they’re going to make a mistake requiring higher end machines rather than making it more accessible.

I think what was more disappointing than the graphics or the gameplay about that SWTOR dungeon video is how non-Starwars it felt to me. The level design, the music, the Diablo demon voice. It just feels kind of off.

That video is just…wow. I’ve been pretty meh on GW2 since they released the videos of some of their small party content, but that’s incredible.

That was pretty awesome. So many facets to that battle, very coo. I can’t wait to get a look at the bigger dragons lol.

SWTOR combat looks terribly dull and static compared to DCUO.

Mainstream MMO combat has been frozen in time for a decade it seems. I feel like I’m looking at WoW, rather than a yet to be released game.

I’d say most WoW boss fights are a lot more memorable and spectacular. Graphically that looked really poor, and the whole thing was pretty static.

I’m not a huge fan of the convoluted strategies involved with WoW’s boss fights but they do have their upsides. I couldn’t see anything in the SWTOR video that I liked. It was that bad.

I think just adding in some bobbing and weaving or crouching animations when taking damage/firing would help a lot.

Well, they were fighting the doorman, not robo-Ragnaros. I appreciate that a lot of MMO vets are more raid centered than me but it looked like the same visual gibberish as most MMO raids I’ve disinterestedly seen streaming video of.

I don’t know if that means you’ve actually done any raid boss fights.

GW2 looks amazing, but im looking forward to SWTOR to.

None higher than ZG. (And Planes in EQ.) I never reached level cap afterwards and quit before casual raiding was as big as it got later, although I leveled a new character 1-70s a bit after WotLK.
