I think the realization that there can be 999 people with the same name in the game might persuade some people to change, although I don’t think I will.

Got busted down from silver to bronze 1v1 (whatever that actually means). Went on a 5-win streak after that. Got my 25 solo wins Marauder portrait.

This game is weird.

Yeah. I played one game in silver league against a guy who could barely summon 4 zealots before I raided his base with a big force, and another against a guy who sent a single SCV up to my base within the opening seconds of the game, and micro’d it around, destroying my structures and distracting me for a minute or two before rushing me with reapers seconds later and destroying me. He basically just toyed with me. Looking at his profile later, he had only played 6 league games (like me). It seems like there is a wide skill range.

Sounds like you are right on the cusp of silver and bronze, so once you got knocked down to the lower pool you were able to pwn n00bz. ;)

My cousin is good at this too but he’s only Gold level because his macro is horrendous. He basically relies on the reaper rush doing some damage because he totally neglects his base while microing the reapers. When we play 2v2 he takes a player out of the game but also takes himself 50% out of the game.

What’s your win/loss ratio?

Mine’s 50%. All the friends whose profiles I’ve looked at? 50%

Doesn’t this kind of system try to match you with people so you end up with a 50/50 win loss ratio?

Right, that’s what I’m getting at.

About 50% – 26 wins in 53 games, I think. It was lower than that until my recent streak tho.

There are some amusing bits in the comments.

“OJsimpson: i think i need a name change before any of you”

“JimRaynor: so awesome, i picked my name thinking your name is unique and no one else could be the original jim raynor but noooooooooooooooooo…”

“first: uhh yeah… I thought it was asking me what i wanted my first save file to be called…”

“Sinani: Good… both of my friends use Sinani as their character names, and it’s suuuper annoying. If we all play with-against each other, no one knows who is who.”

"SixtyBucks: I hope this doesn’t come off sounding too pushy, but will we be able to make multiple characters at some point as well as change their names?

Bashiok: @SixtyBucks: There are no current plans.

DarkChronos: @Bashiok: That sucks… I want a character that i play for real and a alternative one that I play on just to own noobs"

etc.

Would’ve thought that the 50% was a case of matching you with equally skilled people, not you spending half your time playing people out of their depth and the other half getting curb-stomped.

Do you think you might be misunderstanding that 50% win ratio implication?

It’s probably 1/3 rolling over the opponent, 1/3 being rolled over, and 1/3 having a close match.

Me? No. I’m following the line of conversation, which is people complaining how often they’re up against people who are far above their skill level but are still around 50%.

I just uploaded a lost temple replay ( http://drop.io/JabSC2replays) that I feel proud of for a ZvP. Not only did I win but I fended off 3 different attempts at cheese. I keep on forgetting though to get a spire up which I should have done as a backup in case he went carriers.

My micro needs improving though as I still have a tough time managing all my units even with hotkeys.

I’ve had that problem myself when Reaper rushing. My solution was to stop Reaper rushing entirely for a while and force myself to work on my macro game so that I’d get fast enough at it that I could still do it while microing the Reapers.

Reaper rushes can still work at the Platinum and even Diamond level, but it’s more that you’ll simply slow someone down than that you’ll take somebody out entirely, so if you fubar yourself more than you slowed them down it’s a net negative and you’ll probably lose as a result.

Epic replay:

Long, but worth watching until the end.

////Mild Spoiler

Loved the last 10 seconds of this game haha!

Just got promoted from the tippy top of my bronze division to near the top of a gold division. Making the promotion all the sweater was that the game that triggered it was against a player who a: wasn’t very good and b: talked a lot shit.

Apparently my family’s going to die of cancer. Heh.

At least he gave you a sweater.
