I remember looking at this months ago, but being told from multiple sources that there really isn’t any general story or set of goals - that it is almost the definition of just a sandbox.
I know some people love those games, but I need a little more direction/goal seeking. And not just goals that I generate myself - I like a game with win-states.
I posted this as the game frame picture , I saw it over on Reddit, apparently late game space battles can get quite large.

I’m totally there with you. I think that’s one of the reasons I can’t get into Paradox games.
I’m hoping the remaining work he’s apparently doing on the RPG elements heading towards 1.0 also adds in some sort of game with a conclusion.
And I’m not talking exhaustive mind you either, what Tynan bolted onto Rimworld was more than sufficient for me, get marooned on a planet, work to either build a space ship to get back off or troop across the planet to one already on the planet, and leave! And if you don’t ever want to do that fine also, but at least it was there so I could wrap some finality around a colony I had going and call it done.

Tried several things in the DPI settings as shown previously and they caused all kinds of problems for me (screen being off-center, a lot of the screen being out of bounds, etc). This was running at 1440p with 150% DPI in Windows (this is on a large screen TV, so I’m back quite a ways).
As far as I could tell, only changing the resolution would be able to work for me.
Ha, I managed to get in about an hour ago and download it again. Found my key, installed it, realised I already had a slightly earlier version installed (I mean seriously, I had no idea it was even on this laptop), then added it to Steam so now I have no excuse.

That’s the basic idea, yeah. You can see the testbed of certain features in the tutorial mission sequence. And to quote the website:
Upcoming Features
- Determine the fate of the Sector by your actions
… Should be read as “an endgame will be added”.
Yeah. To say the least, the reaction of your average Steam user to the pace of updates would be rather negative without a lot of extra PR/support work by Alex, and he’d rather work on the game.

When I try to run this game at a lower resolution, even in fullscreen, I just get a “box” the size of the resolution in the corner of my screen, and thus the text isn’t any bigger.
Do other people have this issue?
Try pressing “Alt + Enter”

I did, that didn’t seem to do anything. It seems to think it’s already full screen. There’s no border around the screen area, for example, so it’s not running in any sort of window.
If you have an Nvidia card, open the control panel and look under the ‘Adjust desktop size and position’ tab to see what the settings there are. See if maybe you have ‘no scaling’ checked there.

I do have an Nvidia card and wasn’t aware of that setting, I’ll take a look when I get home. Thanks for the tip!
Did you change the compatibility settings I noted upthread? I think those might do it.

I did, but they caused a different set of issues. Maybe I’ll Voltron up everything I’ve tried thus far and see if it magically works. :)
So I fired it up and ran the first tutorial. Got as far as the bit where you have to put your shields up and let the enemy fire on you. Did that, turn shields off to release hard flux. No worries. Then it asks me to do it again… and that’s as far as it gets. “Next” in the tutorial box is greyed out despite following instructions.
Time to put it back in the digital closet.
For what it’s worth, I did the tutorial without any issues.

After the part where you turn off shields to dissipate the hard flux it should then demonstrate what happens when you overload and after that you should be prompted to hold V to vent the hard flux, not just to repeat dropping the shields.
I did it again, and it worked fine this time. I must have broken it somehow, possibly because when I was given weapon control I shot the living shit out of the other ship to see whether it was explode! :) It didn’t… until I got into this locked loop after which I made it go boom. And then I was stuck there by myself, talking to myself.
One thing which is weird to me though, is that when strafing (SHIFT + A or D), the ship ended up strafing and going backwards. So I can’t circle strafe an enemy without it quickly disappearing off the screen. And if I strafe in one direction then shift to the other direction immediately, the ship essentially just reverses with virtually no strafing move. Is that intentional? Because it makes it hard to strafe anything!
