Too soon.

Ha. I checked my receipt. I bought this in 2012! It’s too late actually!

I’ve looked around on the site, but I can’t seem to find any information about what’s missing at this point. Is there a roadmap somewhere that shows what features or content has yet to be added?

-Tom

I am afraid the roadmap might be on the todo list!

I’m going by this from the front page (the \roadmap html looks like it’s 8 years out of date, but the front page seems to include info from the latest version, which is .9)

This is where I got the info from, when I mentioned earlier that it looks like the only thing not yet implemented is the campaign story stuff. Though I know he’s planning a big skill/rpg leveling system overhaul with the next build, and it sounds very interesting.

Tom hasn’t streamed this yet, has he? I just bought it, really interesting, but obviously a lot there.

Edit: Or maybe he can’t stream it since it’s not Steam but an Indie?

Is this still being worked? Just one dev and too much to do to keep everything updated?

I actually think it’s a small team, their site mentions “we” quite a bit in their FAQ and such.

But they are rockstars with their art and code, perfection demands patience and all that, I suppose.

You can stream any game, the only reason I would assume Tom wouldn’t stream this is he’s a little averse to playing games before they are completed, so I can see him wanting to wait until it’s launched into full release.

Yeah, the only reason I haven’t played this is because it’s not done. But I’m super excited about it, especially given all the enthusiasm in this thread. I’d just as soon wait until it’s 1.0, but as soon as it’s on Steam, it’s a candidate for Request Wednesday. I usually like when you guys drag me into an early access title. Usually.

-Tom

It was a ReqWed winner a year or two back, and the stream was invaded by 20 fans of the game that were hunting for the slightest stream!

Wait, that means I have this game! Cool!

Yeesh, given that I don’t remember playing it, I obviously didn’t get very far.

-Tom

It was a combat sandbox for the longest time. But a whole ton of gameplay has been added!

As it stands, I think it just lacks a campaign because reasons… But it plays very well as a sandbox build-your-own-space-empire thingie.

Question: I’ve allied with the Hegemony and the idiots basically declared war on everyone. So now I’m on negative rep with basically every other faction except Independents. Is it wise to resign from the Hegemony now and start to rebuild my rep with everyone else?

Also, is it wise to start a colony when almost everyone is angry at you?

The better reason to side with someone other than the Hegemony is that their factional ships are so overwhelming bleh. Super slow, lots of armor, lots of ballistics hardpoints. All the factions just go in and out of war with each other pretty regularly as far as I can tell. At the beginning it’s probably worth it to be in a faction because the payroll check makes the game infinitely more forgiving.

I didn’t really have any issues setting up my colonies, my only real advice about them is to wait until you’ve got at least a million credits you can comfortably dump, which is almost enough to purchase and kit out a pair of battleships, so be aware of the opportunity cost. They take a bit to make their money back, and although they won’t run you real deep in the red outside of the construction costs, they don’t really start becoming fonts of money until about size 7.

Ok, another game I bought because of QT3. My backlog can wait.

Hope you guys are proud of yourselves.

Why did I hear this with the little girl’s voice from Aliens? “They mostly come at night… mostly”.

I’ve started and stopped this game a few times this past month, but I can feel it’s claws getting into me now!

It is a bit complicated at first, and I struggle to remember which hotkey does what during combat - but as more and more of that becomes second nature, so to does my interest in the sandbox

I’ve been playing it like @Scotch_Lufkin does, letting the autopilot play all my ships. I enjoy tinkering with the loadouts of the ships/systems/weapons to find ones that are really effective. It’s very much like the way Dominions battles work when done that way. You do all the work and planning ahead of the battle then watch it all play out. Lots of fun and the battles are spectacular to watch.

Yeah, this exactly, down to the Dominions analogy. I think this is a lot of fun played this way, and it’s even a bit more of a challenge in some ways as I’m at the mercy of the AI for my own command ship, to boot.

This is the one single thing that let me skipped getting used to the combat and enjoy the rpgish and empire building aspect.

I’ll try starting another game with other factions as allies now! Thanks for the tip. Tri-Tachyon seems good as they have no Illegal goods restrictions apart from cores.

I am so frustrated that the “idiot” AI stay out of they own weapons range and not just go in for the kill! But I can understand why the AI is very conservative.

Concerning time. I used the speedup mod so that I speed up even the Tactical battles. I’m using 4x speed. It helps ALOT in resolving the autocombat in the playstyle I’m doing (letting the AI fight for me)

I found that with AI, letting the majority of weapons having the same range helps ALOT.

Another Question:

Why does lasers don’t seem to do anything to armours at all? They only seem good as point defence against enemy missiles and fighters.

Is Starsector SGOTY? (“Space Game of the Year”?)
