Most useful:
SpeedUp sets the Capslock to double (adjustable from config file) the Tactical Combat speed. This is really useful if you use autocombat. I set it to 4x the speed. I think for autocombat, this mod is almost mandatory!
Easier Grind:
SkilledUp adjust the leveling curve and allows you to increase the main character’s levels beyond 50. I added this for a easier time. But I’ve not hit anywhere close to level 50 yet.
Starship Legends: By default, this allows ships that perform very well in combat to gain perks, like +7% to speed etc. But it also penalizes ships that dont do well in combat with negative traits, like increased maintenance, slower speed etc. (You can adjust the mod config to decide whether you want to be hit with the negatives.)
That’s strange. I’ve never had such a drastic requirement for non-gas giants. Or maybe I tend to get a civilian transport relatively early and never noticed it as a requirement. It’s cheap and one of the first ships I get, together with a simple freighter and tanker.
Edit: Is the rocky planet in a hazardous star? Like a neutron star or blackhole?
Crew requirements are based in part on planet size, I believe, and partly on hazard rating.
When you save stuff like this do you pay the 5k to store it or just carrying it around taking up storage space in your fleet?
Want to understand where I should be socking away stuff I want to hang on to for future use.

Don’t pay for storage.
Use the abandon station at Corvus. You can even park ships there. And it’s all free! :)
Edit: Corvus is the starting star system you start out from. It’s the same in every game. The station will be there.
Thanks man, last time I was in Corvus I didn’t notice, is this abandon base something separate from the hegemony base there that I just missed?
Also, I’ve got some class V survey data that the description says factions consider high value and it’s estimated value is 30k. That would make it the most valuable thing I found, is this something to hang on to or should I cash it in at the nearest base?

Survey data is meant to be sold for money.
I have been selling Survey data and excess Mod plans and blue prints to factions and not black market.
Also selling plans to factions will mean that the faction will be able to build ships with those plans.

I learnt this from the guys here =)
Which I guess would be a good reason not to sell effective ship blue prints on the black market because shortly thereafter you’ll encounter pirates in those ships right?

I have not experimented with this. But I err on the safe side and have only sold to factions I am on good terms with and have avoided black market.
I hate the pirates enough to not give them any possible boosts.

Quick question: I cant for the life of me figure how to transfer more that 1 unit per click in the trade and storage screens.
I know that control and shift clicks works. But it’s a horror right now to want to transfer 100 units. i have to shift click 100 times.
It seems like it’s all or nothing? Can I adjust it to something like 10 per click?
Yeah, I think you hold down SHIFT and then you can drag left and right on a little bar until you get to the amount you want. Something like that. It’s mentioned briefly in the tutorial, I had to experiment with it and now I can’t recall 100%.

Thanks I’ll try it out.
But seriously?! I thought the mouse wheel would be a far better candidate!

Another question:
Flying around in my battlecruisers eat up resources very rapidly. So much so that it takes about 100k+ to just top up the tanks and supplies.
Not to mention the salaries with range around 50k per month. And this is only with 1 battlecarrier in the fleet. The others are still parked in storage.
To mitigate, I try to get 3 or more exploration missions in general vicinity so that I can at least recoup the outfitting costs.
What is the strategy you use adopting at this stage? I am sitting on around 1m credits and seem to be hitting a roadblock to increase that.
Should I plan on starting a colony?
Well, I know it doesn’t feel like it most of the time, but it IS an alpha version. :) Suggest it on the forums, it seems like the developers are very receptive to hearing suggestions, honestly.
Oh goodness yes, that’s where most of your income eventually rolls in from! Set up a colony, let it thrive, and set up another colony (or two) in the same sector if you can. What you want is a 125% hazard rating for the first (150 if you MUST) and ideally, at least another 150 (or 2) in the same sector - easier to protect them that way, plus I think it’s easier for your colonies to share resources as well.
Also, if you haven’t, consider taking on a commission with a faction - you’ll get a lot of money (I believe it’s based on your commander level) and that can more than offset your costs per month, giving you less to worry about - and at this point you probably are out in deep space exploring anyway, so the drawbacks to commissions (being at war with your allies enemies) is a bit less of an issue.

The commission disrupt my gameplay loop because I travel from system to system to pick up delivery missions also while getting the contracts that cluster around an area. Edit: War with factions will severly crimp that aspect.
But yes I think I’ll do a couple more exploration runs for levels and blueprints and start a few colonies! Edit: Thanks @Scotch_Lufkin
These analyze domain era probe missions are confusing me. I get to the star system and can’t find the probe. The mission says I’m supposed to run a customer sensor package on it. Am I missing a special sensor package for these type of missions and that’s why I’m not finding it?
Or are these things really just hard to find once you get where they’re supposed to be? I’m thinking I need to reconsider taking these as I can never find what they’re asking me to look for, I show up and star system is pretty much empty, there’s no exclamation point showing where it is like I found with planets I surveyed.
Am I missing something here?
You need to able to find the probs that will have an yellow exclaimation over them.
The mission trigger dialog will happen when you approach it. There is no “special equipment” that you need to buy or install.
I think @Coldsteel mentioned that they can also appear near the central stars also. I have encountered some derelicts spawn points around stars so he’s correct.
Build some sensor nav points, and make some ships with better sensor range (through mods). That’ll help tremendously in your exploration. Use the planetary map. Detected signatures will show up when you have a good sensor range.
