Often in cases like this the intel screen will have a clue such as “…near a barren world…” or similar.

Yeah, in this case it just says some distance away from the center of the star system.

How much of a hit with hegemony will I take for bailing on a mission? They’re the ones I picked up from and I’ve recently mildly annoyed them with being a little overly exuberant on the black market buying supplies.

Btw, thanks for all the answers guys, I know these are noob questions.

Are you playing on Iron Man? If so, yeah just bail and maybe sell them some Gamm AI cores to bolster their love for you again. If not, make a quick save when you enter the system, run around in burn and spam your active sensor sweep, find it, and once you know where it’s at reload the game if you want to recoup some of the cost in terms of time/resources to locate it. Meh. A learning experience.

I bailed on the last one, lost only 1 point with hegemony. Took a new one to find a ship, having same problem, I clearly have issues with what should be a pretty easy mission series, I guess I’m just not very good at hide and seek. But what’s funny is instead of finding what I’m looking for I stumble across other cool stuff to collect and sell, some of which is worth more than the missions I’m abandoning, haha

edit: what do you know, found it after all !!! And then got jumped by pirates losing two ships fleeing them.

I’ve no idea why I find this so addictive but I really just can’t stop playing it. Bouncing back and forth between this and Planetfall co-op campaign.

I saved up around 1m but found that due to the fleet I have, my costs were so big that I can’t increase income anymore.

So I started 2 colonies and they appear to be doing ok, my monthly maintenance costs were coming down.

And so I went exploring again… and this is getting ridiculous because I found my 4th Legion 14!

It’s a Battle Carrier and had zero D-mods! What an awesome run this is turning out to be. But… my supplies and fuels costs are going to kill me…

Edit: I experimented with placing ships in storage. The monthly maintenance still appeared to be the same with zero reductions…

Me want.

Hmmmm, it seems that colonies are necessary to maintaining large fleets.

I have 3 relatively basic (level 3) colonies and they have covered the maintenance costs now. I went from -40+k per month to -2k now.

But the pirates fleets are quite large, if I do not have the Battleship class ships, I think I’ll have a very hard time dealing with the pirates fleets and bases.

Well-equipped cruisers are plenty capable of dealing with pirate fleets. The pirate Colossus is basically a large, fragile balloon filled with supplies and fuel for looting. The pirate Atlas is a tougher nut, but any true capital ship will smoke one easily.

Now that you have colonies, get ready for your colony systems to be raided by pirates starting almost immediately. All three of my colonies are in the same system so I have overlapping defenses and that helps a lot.

Once you get the notice of pirate activity in a colony system, visit the bar on your colony world and talk to the spacer there. He will tell you the location of the pirate base. Take it out with your fleet and the raids will stop. Do NOT leave the pirate base alone for a long time. If you do it will eventually grow bigger and tougher to take out and the pirate fleets will also get bigger and tougher. An ounce of prevention and all that.

Building a Patrol HQ and a orbital defense station for your colonies should be a priority. Upgrade them when you can.

Yea. I find the AI have difficulties handling too large a mass of Atlases. The constant switching of targets may allow some to get to my own ships.

This is true. I feel that I have to swat a pirate base almost once a month or 2.

Discovered this by surprise. The bar is the place I visit all the time. I found that it even had delivery mission on my own home base! That is really nice!

Yea, I’ll be building those soon. It sure takes a TON of money to get a decent colony running!

A big setback. My Alpha AI cores on my colonies disappeared after a pirate raid…

Reminder to self: Swap out the AI cores with gamma ones when pirate is raiding!

If you raid the pirate base that took them before you destroy it, you might be able to get them back.

The Hegemony will sometimes do AI inspections and take your cores. I may have slightly overreacted and committed a mild case of genocide against every Hegemony world in reprisal. I don’t like their ships anyways, so it’s no great loss.

Gah! I destroyed the base and was unable to raid it because there was a fleet I was unable to draw away.

Cool, I didnt know that! How do you genocide a faction? Are we able to destroy a colony?

There’s a mod called Nexerelin or something that adds the option to invade planets. And the AI will do it to each other. It adds some interest to the galaxy.

Does the GUI do a good job of showing you at a glance which systems/planets currently belong to whom?

Yes, it does.

It does? AFAIK the only way to find Hegemony worlds is to mouse-over every inhabited system. I’m not denying the existence of some filter that makes it easy, but the filter certainly doesn’t stand out if it exists.

Which would be basically my textbook example of not doing a good job of showing me something at a glance.
