For those thinking about getting this, be aware that they have been in alpha for 5 years. I have it on my wishlist but that sets off major alarm bells for me. I think the odds of it getting all the way to release are pretty slim, unfortunately.
It’s not like they haven’t updated it at all. It’s come a very long way in the last few years. Some games, like this and Starsector, are gonna take a while, but likely be very worth it.
I’m old enough to remember talk that the FTC was essentially gelded during the Reagan years, when cutting taxes on rich people and making corporate America happy (always) while fighting the Commies were the main priorities.
I’m enjoying Tametsi, which is particularly cheap in the sale. It’s a pleasingly tough Hexcells/Minesweeper-style game, with some interesting twists such as irrregular grids. 160 puzzles, no guesswork involved, the dev reckons it will take 40 hours fo finish.
EDIT: Just found this review by John Walker, should you need someone else’s word for it:
Tametsi is one of the best logic puzzle games you can buy on PC. It’s up there with Hexcells in my mind, albeit without the latter’s exquisite presentation. Its increasing complexity and perfect difficulty curve makes it one of the most compelling puzzles I’ve had the pleasure to play.
Anyone want to sound off on Gunfire Reborn? I’m seeing a lot of you pick that up on the Steam activity feed (along with a lot of Erranorth Reborns and Ancient Enemys)
For some reason, I am really enjoying Ancient Frontier. I think it’s simplistic take on TBS Fleet Space Battles and the ability to build your own fleet.
It offers two campaigns, but sadly no Sandbox or one off battles. No Multiplayer options either, but otherwise, it is a great little game.
Which is a really weird sort of hidden picture, deduction, figure out how this works kind of game. I think I like it? I booted it up intending to just check it out for 5 minutes and looked up three hours later. The humor in this game is daarrrkk.
This is a game like Commandos, but all of the control is by radio: you can’t see the battlefield and have to relay your orders by voice. It works! And it’s pretty cool. There are cool little minifigs you can push around on a map to represent where you think your units are. I’m interested to dig into the campaign a little more.
Holy shit this game is weird. You’re a producer in a TV studio, cuing up live video in order to maintain audience interest. All of the video is live action with real actors. It works too and is kind of fascinating.
Probably the least quirky game I got. I’ve had it on my wishlist for awhile but I never realized it’s a minimalist side scroller like Limbo or Inside. I love it! I’ve actually been playing it with my 9 year old son. He controls it and we figure out what to do together, just like the old days.
I got this for my son to play. It’s been on my wishlist and it looks gorgeous, but it turns out to not be super compelling gameplaywise. I may refund it.
I’m still kind of considering Gloomhaven (though I’m loathe to buy it in early access), while True: learn(), and Until You Fall, but I’m probably done for this sale.
It has a mode where you can temporarily draw over the puzzle, freehand, to help you work things out. I saw that and thought ‘cute, but I got through all of Hexcells without needing such a thing thankyouverymuch.’
I only lasted until puzzle 14 without using it, while constructing some reductio ad absurdum proof about where the next mine lay - if I assume it’s there, it leads to this contradiction on the other side of the board, so…
