It definitely is! I initially passed it off as another one of those mediocre European made games, but was blown away by how damned good it was. I only wish they were making a sequel. :(

Well, I guess the Spirits of Rage may be more amusing than the Pet Dragon… but is there anything else that Legends has which the sequels don’t?

Besides the story, not really. The spirits of rage were indeed cooler than the pet dragon, but everything that’s included in the expansions just improves on the original.

X-tension for $1.24 is undeniable value for what I consider the best game in the series. It is probably a bit long in the graphical tooth these days, but it nails the atmosphere and the feeling that you’re lost and alone in the X universe (at least to start with), whereas the later games lose that sense of isolation and encourage you to develop your trading empire with snazzier graphics. When I say “later games” I mean X2, which I thought was terrible. Never played TC but it’s apparently an improvement over 2.

I’d say X3:TC with the X-Tended mod is worth a shot if you favor X-Tension’s style of play. YMMV.

is X-tension a stand-alone expansion or do you need X:Beyond the Frontier on Steam to play it?

I noticed the Penny Arcade Adventures Collection is $1.80 and has a countdown timer, so I wonder if it’s a daily deal marked earlier than normal.

No, it’s been that price the whole time. The sale is just ending.

About right for an unfinished episodic series, I’d say. Notice how “episodic” has vanished from the trade press?

EDIT: guess I was wrong, one more day of “best of” sales.

Anyone looking at buying the Dawn of War 2 Complete Pack should buy the THQ Hit Collection instead. In a prime example of wacky Steam Sale pricing the DOW2 Complete Pack (DOW2 - Chaos Rising - Retribution) is $45, while for $5 more you can get all 3 games included in the Hit Collecion plus 11 more games including great stuff like Darksiders, Company of Heroes (and Opposing Fronts), S.T.A.L.K.E.R., Titan Quest w/ Immortal Throne, Metro 2033, Homefront and Red Faction Guerrilla. That’s a hell of a lot of good action for $50.

EDIT : I just checked on the prices of all three DOW2 games. Today only, as long as that $7.50 price holds up, you can add all three DOW2 games to your cart and only pay about $34.20, over $10 less than the same thing you get in the DOW2 Complete Pack. WTH Steam?! Honestly though, for $15 more that THQ Hit Collection is really a great buy if you don’t already own more than a couple of the games in it.

Dead Space 2 and Two Worlds 2 were both a bit higher than my impulse buy border, but both are games I was looking forward to and will help me to curb my purchases with regard to new AAA titles coming out now.

All in all a satisfying haul for some decent prices.
