I say that every couple of months. It’s a simple but addictive game that’s worth playing a few times per year when you don’t know what else to play.

So I grabbed Borderland GOTY for 7.50 and 5 hours later I am still getting a “steam servers are too busy” and can’t dl the damn thing. Not that I had time tonite but still…

During this sale I bought 12 games, so my current total is 314.

I had that issue with Borderlands. It would sit there a lot longer than 3 minutes before I gave up and killed it.

Killing and starting steam from scratch seemed to do the trick. For me, anyway.

During the majority of the sale I was patting myself on the back for resisting the urge to splurge. I ended up buying:

Beat Hazard Complete
Tropico 3 Gold
Fallout: New Vegas - Dead Money
Fallout New Vegas - Honest Hearts

Then the last day of the sale happened and my resolve diminished:

Sanctum
Terraria
Paradox Fantasy Pack
The Mawesome Pack
Eschalon: Book I
1C Space Collection
OddBoxx
Hinterland
DarkStar One

Where can I find this please? I found one site with a torrent that didn’t work.

Well the Steam sale ended up getting me pretty good. I usually have quite a bit more willpower. My final haul was:

Alpha Protocol
Batman: Arkham Asylum
Bioshock 2
Darksiders
Farcry 2
Risen
Torchlight

$30 and change

I figure that should do me fine until Christmas when another sale comes around and some more shit I haven’t been able to play ends up being ridiculously cheap.

I think I’m done as well. I had a crisis of confidence after the first few days, thought “why am I spending money on games I won’t get to for months, if ever” and drew the line at Dragon Age: Origins Ultimate. Ha!

But then… the inevitable happened, and I got drawn back in. So… sigh… here’s the damage:

Recettear
Borderlands GOTY
Terraria
Starscape
HOMM V: Tribes of the East
Magicka
POP: Warrior Within
SupCom2
Dead Space pack (for DS2)
Hinterland
VVVVVV (gifted)

Not too bad really, $59.57, two thirds of the price of a tank of fuel for my car. So as long as I bike everywhere for the next week, it won’t have cost me a cent! The only game there that I could probably have gotten cheaper by waiting would be Dead Space 2, but I want to play that soon and I can’t see the Aussie version dropping below $20 anytime in the next 12 months.

Contest!

I have a free copy of Frozen Synapse to give away to a lucky contestant. All you have to do is PM me with your Steam name and the answer to this question:

On July 5, I bought one of the daily deals from the Steam sale. It was DLC for game I own. What did I buy?

Hint:

First person to PM me the correct answer wins. Good luck!

I log into Steam and I get this message about a gift from the krayzkrok man himself. And what better game to be gifted from him that one with a title that resembles crocodile teeth - VVVVVVV. Well, it at least resembles the top half of their jaw (or is it snout?)

Thank you very much krayzkrok, you rock!

My own haul was thankfully subdued this time. I was tempted on many occasions, but had to realise that I have less throwaway money this time.

VVVVVV - gifted
Price of Persia complete pack… I thoroughly enjoy the first when released by Broderbund software. Yes, I know times have changed.
Terraria
Atom Zombie Smasher
A.R.E.S
Assassins Creed Pack

Not too much pain in the bank account after all. I swear, these purchases were meant to be seeing as I learnt today I’ll be getting some backpay from a position I filled two years ago.

The summer sale gave me an excellent chance to hone my willpower:

SpaceChem: $5.09 USD July 1
Frozen Synapse: Free! July 4
King Arthur Collection: $4.50 July 5
Terraria: $2.49 July 9

Total: 4 games + expansions and 10 DLC packages for only $12.08!

Ha! Take that Steam!

I have a bad feeling the winter sale is going to a very dangerous affair.

How do I tell a game to stop downloading forever? I have Mount and Blade’s download paused but I can’t see a way to completely remove it from the queue to download.

I kinda have gaming ADD so if I get a couple hours out of a $5 game with some interesting mechanics I’m good with that. I’ve spent less than 3 hours with Space Chem, but if I never get back to it I still feel like it wasn’t a waste of money.

And while we’re at it, what I picked up:

Space Chem (interesting, but feels a bit too much like a job so far)
Spectromancer (more addicting than I would have thought. Scratches an itch for times when I don’t want to load up a big game)
Atom Zombie Smasher (haven’t tried anything from here down yet)
Fallout:New Vegas
Portal 2

$53, total.

Ha! What an awesome hint. I had heard that they were the inspiration for the band in the picture (hope I didn’t say too much).

Witcher 2! yaay!

Right Clicking on it in the library and selecting “delete local content” works for me.

Assuming what he wants to do is actually uninstall the game from his system, I’d second that.

I bought a total of 26~ ish games, (subscriptions that is, Steam) and spent near $150. That’s with having bought the 2-Pack of Portal 2. On the last day of a Steam sale I like to sort by price and pick up all the decent stuff under $3.

Since I only bought two or three near-full price titles this year, this makes my gaming habit fairly inexpensive. I believe it also makes me a poor supporter of the games industry.

I was out of the country for most of the sale, so had stupid Euro prices as an aid to willpower. But all the stuff I wanted to buy ended up appearing as a daily when I was here. Very considerate of Valve to schedule their wallet assaults around my availability. I ended up getting:

Oblivion Game of the Year Deluxe Super Horse Armour Edition
Recettear
Gratuitous Space Battles Complete
Magicka Complete
Atom Zombie Smasher
Terraria (at the initial super-low price!)
VotM: Bloodlines

Which I think came to about forty quid. Could be worse.

I wonder if I’ll manage to install and play any of them before the winter sale. Probably not. I’m still only about halfway through Act II of the Witcher 2.

It also represents your gnashing teeth the 100th time you try and get Veni Vidi Vici right. But it’s a good gnashing. Enjoy the game, it’s short but very sweet.

A bout of “ooh, it’s the last hours of the sale, is there anything I really WANT” kicked in and after thinking long and hard about Two Worlds II I ended up getting Drakensang:River of Time and the DLC.
