Bought it. Dick. :p
Now do you mind telling me what the hell I just bought?!

Audiosurf
Command and Conquer 3
Gratuitous Space Battles: Nomads
Gratuitous Space Battles: Galactic Conquest
X3: Terran Conflict
DiRT
Assassin’s Creed II: Deluxe Edition
Fate of the World
Everyday Shooter
Zen Bound 2
gifted- Sanctum
Damn you Qt3! I don’t even like Diabloesques and I bought two. I can’t believe how much I like a budget “card game” with a lousy translation. You made me buy two more copies! And Dirt sucks with wheel support, but now there’s a cool mod you bastards told me about. ARG!
Oh well. It could be far worse. I could’ve spent the same money on one Call of Duty. Gaming is safe for another year.

I got away relatively unscathed this year:
Fable DLC
Command & Conquer 4
Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood
Star Wars The Force Unleashed II
That’s it. Plus gifted 2 Bad Company 2 copies and another one for myself to get it attached to Steam when I already own it.
An awesome trading game/town builder with a Pirates! flair.

I thought I was in the clear, but Ars Technica ran a cover story on Sanctum today (first person, co-op, tower defense game) and suddenly, I had a four pack and was handing out copies to some friends.
It’s patch 1.3, but posting a changelog doesn’t mean much if you have no frame of reference for the changes. I’m just telling people not to worry about reading that. Wait a few days and play the game fresh with 1.3.
Chalk and cheese really. Risen is 3rd person action, RoT is pausable semi-turn/semi-real-time party based. Hard to go wrong with either IMO. Neither is especially casual-friendly, but neither has any actual keyboard-gnawing aspects I can remember.
They do both have demos.
Thanks, Alistair. Sounds like they’d each scratch a particular itch so I guess their dissimilarity has earned them spots on my Summer Sale tab, lol.
My view on this is that I got at least three games I would have dropped $20 each on in stores had I seem them there and needed a gaming fix (Napoleon Total War, Drakensang and Drakensang River of Time). Since I spent $60 and got 10 additional games beyond those (along with tons of DLC) I figure that my value will net out to equal even if I never play any of the 10 additional games. Since I know I will end up playing most of them for at least a couple of hours each at some point, I’m secure in the knowledge that I got a hell of a lot more gaming hours for my money than if I’d simply spent $60 on an A List new release.
Someone else mentioned that they felt like “poor supporters of the gaming industry” for buying up so many games so cheaply. I would argue that you’re actually using your money to support more of the gaming industry by taking advantage of these sales. If you spend $60 to buy Skyrim on day one, then you’ve certainly helped Bethesda by racking up a week one sale for them and adding a few bucks to their bottom line. However, if you spend $60 on a dozen games from 8 different developers/publishers then that’s a dozen sales versus one, and while each individual publisher/developer may not get as much from the $5 digital sale as they would have from a $50 retail box sale, they still get something, and it adds to the overall units sold count for each of those games, helping to insure that future games from that genre/developer will continue to get made.
I have a limited budget for gaming. If my budget can support dozens of developers and publishers through these sales rather than a handful through day one A-list purchases, I feel like I’m better helping the industry. The fact that I get a hell of a lot more content and feel good about saving money only sweetens the deal.
It’s a fun, light game - a steal for that price.
KOTOR (for digital backup, I already have the retail version)
Eschalon: book 1
Eschalon: book 2
Spectromancer (the whole set).
Bye bye steam summer sale. :)
I only bought Spectromancer. I was good to my backlog.
But now there’s 45 min. left and I’m itching to buy something just to buy something. Resolve weakens as the clock ticks.
I picked up:
Braid
Drakensang
Drakensang: The River of Time
Drakensang: Phileasson’s Secret
Eschalon: Book I
Eschalon Book II
Frozen Synapse
The Heroes Pack
Just Cause 2
King’s Bounty: AP + Crossworlds
Mount&Blade: With Fire & Sword
Risen
Total War: SHOGUN 2 - Ikko Ikki Clan
Two Worlds II
I’m starting with King’s Bounty: Crossworlds, which ate up quite a few hours yesterday. I’ll probably restart my game now that I understand it a little better, but it’s pretty fun. Of the above list, I think Two Worlds II is the only purchase I’m really questioning.
I may have gone a little nuts.
Civ V (technically from Gamersgate)
Dead Space 2
Dreamfall: The Longest Journey
Frozen Synapse - Two Pack
HOARD
Jamestown
King’s Bounty: Crossworlds
Neverwinter Nights 2: Platinum
Project Freedom
Saira
Sanctum
Tomb Raider: Underworld
Two Worlds II
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II - Retribution
Whispered World
X3: Terran Conflict
In fairness to myself, everything that was over $10 was on my “buy when it goes on sale” list. I’m surprised by how much I’m enjoying Tomb Raider: Underworld, which has gotten the most play time so far. It’s really solid and well done. Frozen Synapse is the only thing I really wish I hadn’t bought, since I don’t think I’m smart enough to play it, but I do plan to make some more attempts, so that could change. I also don’t really care for Sanctum, but at least it was quite cheap.

With about seven minutes to go I suddenly decided to see what Machinarium was going for, as I had thought of buying it before and added it for $3.40.
The Steam servers are melting down as the sale ends so I won’t be downloading it until later.

My final list of acquisitions… out for under $20.
Hinterland
Oblivion GOTY
Spectromancer + DLC
Terraria (extra cheap price… yay!)
Almost bit on Sanctum, but I think I’ll be plenty busy for a while… and MNC has my Tower Defense Shooter itch scratched.
