Hmm, good idea.

Risen. Clear favorite so far, so much old school hardcore RPG action. I’m in the [REDACTED], lockpicking my way deep below, playing with the magic [REDACTED] and it’s a total hoot. The lethality of the game only makes the stakes higher.

SpaceChem. Eh, it’s ok. It does remind me a bit too much of work, but in a fun way. I guess I’m not that much of a puzzler though as it doesn’t just OMGBBQ wow me.

Operation Arrowhead - the campaign’s a lot cleaner than the original game, which is good because Invasion ''44 doesn’t seem to want to play super nice. The campaign is either broken or just not so good, and I can’t seem to be able to create scenarios. Still, I’m always glad to support the ArmA folk and I’m sure this will develop into a fun toy one way or another.

Guild Wars Trilogy - WHY CAN’T I MOVE?! I’ll probably put a lot of time into this once done with Risen, but I think it might take me some time to get over the clunkiness. The new models seem not nearly as nice as the original ones. :/ At least the world is still pretty, and the value for sheer exploration should be

Some Railworks 2 DLCs, mainly to flesh out some UK routes. Relaxing! :)

Oblivion GOTY, just to have on Steam. I’ll probably fire up Nehrim again once I finish Risen.

Wings of Prey … I don’t know, it was 5 bucks and it looked oh so pretty. I know I should be playing Rise of Flight instead. :P

Still haven’t had a chance to try: Darksiders, Hitman: Blood Money, Aquaria.

So many games! I wanted to pick up some of the shiny titles that people were talking about (like the Drakensang games), but anything over $5 got a lot of scrutiny. My backlog is just so huge between the PC/360/PS3, that it just felt like a waste to buy anything I wasn’t going to play in the near future.

I would be really interested to see the stats on the number of unplayed steam games in people’s accounts.

My total damage:

The New Vegas dlc: $5.

Damn these Steam sales. Damn them.

Ah! OK, that sounds good. I look forward to getting my feet wet.

All this means is that either you’ve already bought these games in the past or you don’t like a lot of games. :)

I bought the Witcher Enhanced Edition. Kind of weird so far but I haven’t even levelled up yet so there’s no way I am far enough to pass judgement whether I like it or not yet.

you’ve already bought these games in the past

/raises hand

Damage wasn’t even damage this year. WoP addon, Arma II+OA, and CoH: ToV (and the last two just to get everything on Steam).

My damage was pretty light this time around:

The Heroes Pack ($5)
Risen ($10)
Sanctum ($2.50)
Neverwinter Nights 2 Platinum ($6.79)
Hinterland ($2.50)
Terraria ($1.88)
and a few bucks worth of DLC for AI War, King Arthur, and Beat Hazard.

Right around $30 total – I think I spent more just on indie packs in the Christmas sale than I did in this entire sale. There were quite a few games at 50%-ish off that I would have gone for at 75% (Dragon Knight Saga, Two Worlds II, Drakensang: tRoT, SpaceChem, Amnesia, Jamestown), but I have no problem waiting for them to drop lower next time around. Wish I had grabbed the Oblivion GOTY edition, since I initially played it on 360 and would like to check out Nehrim and that new Russian mod, but it was on an early day and I wasn’t sure how tempting the rest of the sale would be, so decided to hold off.

I know some people have limited budgets, but for most of us it’s probably better to think of damage in terms of time rather than money. I notice quite a few in this thread have already made the switch. That’s assuming anyone’s serious about playing all the games they buy.

I’m trying something new this time by immediately playing the indie games I picked up during the sale (except for Terraria, which ought to improve with age). That way after a couple weeks I’m only left with one or two serious games added to my backlog. That’s manageable.

I ended up ultimately only buying one game during this sale - Cities XL 2011 for $8. In part that was because I held off in the early days of the sale partly for budgetary reasons and partly because I expected that I’d see the games I wanted come back around. So I’m mad at myself for not acting on Bioshock 2 at $5 and the STALKER expansions at even lower prices.

Later, when I had the money to do something, none of the daily sales items got my attention. I thought long and hard about some of the general sales games I had noted earlier, but its hard to justify buying the Eschalon series when I played through the demo for the first game earlier this year and wasn’t motivated to buy it. Or pick up the River of Time expansion when I haven’t finished the game. Plus Cities XL has been keeping me busy and I still have games from the Steam Christmas sale I haven’t gotten off the backlog.

Oh well, there’s always something on sale on Steam. Many of these will come around again or just naturally drop in price further.

I guess I’ve been buying too many games not on Steam these last few months.

This time around only bought two games on sale: Legend: Hand of God, can never resist a Diablo clone it seems, and The Longest Journey for my wife’s Netbook. So got off cheap.

Looks like there’s one last gasp for the sale as the publisher packs will remain on sale for today.

I’ve been thinking of doing something similar, where I’d go through all the games I haven’t played yet one-by-one, but giving each only one evening of play. If I’m greatly impressed enough, then they go on the short list of games to revisit and complete later on, but otherwise that’s it, they’re done.

Of course the problem is that I just know it would keep getting derailed by the other games I want to play right now, MMOs, getting lazy and slipping into some comfortable old game…

These meta-games explain why you’ve got backlogs - you’d rather talk about em than do em :)

EDIT: Copy is gone. Phydeaux is quick on the the draw with the barter guns. Thanks!

The Summer Sale may be over, but the savings just won’t stop!
I’ve still got one copy of Sanctum left, and it can be yours for the low, low price of $2.50!
Even Ars Technica likes it!

I already put 20 hours into Terraria since I bought it for $2.50. It sure is addictive in a mindless way.

Xeno, I’ll trade you that Sanctum for a copy of Hoard, a $2.50 value!

Those bastards! Haven’t they done enough?!?!

The weekly steam top sellers. Because all the week we had the Summer Sale, it serves to know what sale worked better

I didn’t have much of a haul. I had to jump on Amnesia and Mass Effect 2, but I’m perplexed as to how some people here bought a dozen or more games. I have lots of time to play games and I can’t even keep up with what I already have.

My final haul:

Risen
Atom Zombie Smasher
Hinterland
King’s Bounty: The Legend
Jamestown
Beat Hazard
Magicka

As is probably clear from my posts in this thread, Risen is the only one I’ve spent any significant time with. I was close to pulling the trigger on Two Worlds 2 and The Witcher 2, but held off on both.
