Steel Batallion re-release

For those who are playing, what sort of physical setup do you have? TV size, desk setup, and how do you have the pedals setup?

I’ve tried a few configurations but haven’t found one that makes me happy quite yet. I think I need to buy a small card table or portable table. I tried a small computer cart but it was too narrow and wobbly.

I tried the lap method too but thats not as satisfying - I want that big ole controller laid out on a stable surface in front of me, so I can sit in an upright position and stomp on the gas :0.

Also, the game was definitely more impressive on Tom’s uber big screen TV than on my puny 27". (although the image quality seems a lot better on my Sony Trinitron, its not as epic).

Any player-made videos out there? I’m the only one around here that I know of that has an Xbox and I certainly don’t have it but would love to see the game in action.

My God. I would break the controller, then the disk. My stress level is rising just from contemplating the idea. Isn’t that just a little too hardcore? :?[/quote]

Nah. You’ve got plenty of time to press the button. First, a red light begins flashing at the top of the screen, then a loud alarm begins sounding, then flames begin to fill your cockpit, all while the ejection button is flashing a bright red. Unless you’re just an incredible spazz, you’ll never need to worry about failing to hit the button. It’s just a really cool addition.

OK, this might elicit laughs from all, but I’ve been using…a full size ironing board! The crazy thing is it works like a charm. Adjustable height and plenty of room for the pedals below.

I’m sort of picturing you guys with mongo size TV’s, Xboxen on the floor, cables snaking everywhere, with one going up to the massively wide joystick plus button station THING sitting on an ironing board. Behind the ironing board, you’re hunched over, scanning up at the TV then down at the lighted buttons on the mech controller, looking even more absurdly pleased than the first time you sat behind a Dungeon Master’s screen.

That’s right, isn’t it?

And there is a part of me that wants one of these damn things. I’m glad they exist, at least.

Here are pics of my setup (excuse the DDR pads, they are my wife’s).

The box in pic 2, is that the box the controller comes in? Is that really metal or just made-to-look-metal cardboard?

— Alan

Made to look metal. It’s cardboard, but you still get some looks walking out of EB with that under your arm.

How about this?

I make no guarantees on bandwith or quality since it’s not my site.

It’s a bit slow, but I’ll check it out - thanks!

My local EB only had one copy and it was reserved, but I got the clerk to show me the box and it’s AWESOME. It looks like a big ammo box. Totally cool… if they’d had more than one I would now be a proud owner…
