Since you asked, I have a suggestion. I didn’t make it through the first episode because you dedicated the first ten minutes to install options, do you really feel that was the best way to kick things off?

Mind you this is just me, and maybe I’m not representative of your audience, but I was interested in this game, had never heard of it, and wanted to learn more but I just tuned out by the time you started to play. Maybe you could include a note to jump ahead to X point in the video if you’re not into those details?

Anyway it’s not my intention to tear you or your style apart, it’s just a concern I ran into. When I’m seeing stuff that isn’t too interesting my mind wanders and pretty soon I’m off to find something else to do. Take that for what it’s worth.

I appreciate the feedback. Yes, i thought about it carefully before i started the series. You would fall slightly to the left of my intended audience for this series. The intention wasn’t so much to display the gameplay and convince people to give it a try. These are intended to help folks who have already heard of it and are interested but ran into frustrations/issues with installation or early survival. I do specifically say in the description and in the video that the early episodes are all installation/configuration stuff and too skip ahead if you just want to see gameplay. The series is specifically designed to give someone brand new the info they require to get the game installed and running properly. It’s NOT an easy thing to do if you are not aware of some pretty specific things i cover. You can’t even get through the world generation screen unless you are aware of using the < and > keys to move between some menu tabs.

I didn’t want to start showing gameplay then have to backup and cover the installation/configuration stuff later. It’s better to have it right at the front of the series where its an easy to find reference. I’ve been releasing about 2 videos per day and knew people would quickly have plenty of episodes to check out gameplay stuff instead. After the first video i also title the episodes with some clue about the content of that episode for quick reference, hence ‘character creation’ ‘interface’ ‘gameplay’ etc.

I did not pick up on that, or I probably would have skipped ahead to get to the gameplay. My perspective is that of never even having heard of the game, but really curious to find out if this might be for me. I think your post answered that question though, I’m not sure I even have the patience to get through the install.

This really late dispatch is filled with news, videos, deals and more! Thanks for reading, and have a great weekend!

I knew it! Commie!

It’s Saturday, which means it’s time for another BattleTech mercenaries entry. We’ve finished one contract, and now it’s time to decide on the next one.

@Vormithrax, how are you grabbing video from an iPad?

Late reply here, so I’m not sure if this is something Vormithrax added recently, but when I was watching, there was a catalog of videos and their topics where I could easily jump ahead to actual gameplay.

Hi @tomchick,

I am using an Android Emulator : https://www.bluestacks.com/

It allows you to play all your games on the PC instead. Makes playing stuff like Through the Ages, Pathfinder, Race for the Galaxy, Age of Rivals so much nicer. I’ll be doing videos for some of the others games soon also.

Heh, i just published my humiliating defeat on the ‘Deep Impact’ challenge in part 2. Had no idea while playing that so much time had passed, its a double length episode. I would love to get feedback on where i went wrong in my play. Still lots to learn about the game.

I’ve used AMIDuOS for android emulation and it’s pretty damn great.

Welcome to another week of spacey gaming my friends! This is the last week of playing catch-up before returning to a more stable game-of-the-week format next week, so this week we’ll have some videos of Stable Orbit, Space Rangers HD, Dominari and Destination Ares! The first video is of Stable Orbit, in which my station survives for the ENTIRE EPISODE.

For this week’s LAN Party (Thursday, 5:30 PM Pacific, Twitch, YouTube), we’ll be be giving the Werewolf/Mafia-inspired online 3D board game, Throne of Lies!

Finally, this Sunday is our next Monthly MMO Meetup (Sunday, 9:00 AM Pacific, Twitch, YouTube), we’ll be playing Star Wars Galaxies with the Legends mod, since it includes spaceshippy Jump to Lightspeed content!
