I hear the current administration is fond of the Washington Nationalists.

Morn Guys - a friends wife sent to me…

Open Letter To The NFL PLAYERS. The Boycott is coming.

You graduated high school in 2011. Your teenage years were a struggle. You grew up on the wrong side of the tracks. Your mother was the leader of the family and worked tirelessly to keep a roof over your head and food on your plate.

Academics were a struggle for you and your grades were mediocre at best. The only thing that made you stand out is you weighed 225 lbs and could run 40 yards in 4.2 seconds while carrying a football. Your best friend was just like you, except he didn’t play football. Instead of going to football practice after school, he went to work at McDonalds for minimum wage. You were recruited by all the big colleges and spent every weekend of your senior year making visits to universities where coaches and boosters tried to convince you their school was best. They laid out the red carpet for you. Your best friend worked double shifts at Mickey D’s. College was not an option for him. On the day you signed with Big State University, your best friend signed paperwork with his Army recruiter. You went to summer workouts. He went to basic training.

You spent the next four years living in the athletic dorm, eating at the training table. You spent your Saturdays on the football field, cheered on by adoring fans.

Tutors attended to your every academic need. You attended class when you felt like it. Sure, you worked hard. You lifted weights, ran sprints, studied plays, and soon became one of the top football players in the country. Your best friend was assigned to the 101st Airborne Division. While you were in college, he deployed to Iraq once and Afghanistan twice. He became a Sergeant and led a squad of 19 year old soldiers who grew up just like he did. He shed his blood in Afghanistan and watched young American’s give their lives, limbs, and innocence for the US

You went to the NFL combine and scored off the charts. You hired an agent and waited for draft day. You were drafted in the first round and your agent immediately went to work, ensuring that you received the most money possible. You signed for $16 million although you had never played a single down of professional football. Your best friend re-enlisted in the Army for four more years. As a combat tested sergeant, he will be paid $32,000 per year.

You will drive a Ferrari on the streets of South Beach. He will ride in the back of a Blackhawk helicopter with 10 other combat loaded soldiers. You will sleep at the Ritz. He will dig a hole in the ground and try to sleep. You will “make it rain” in the club. He will pray for rain as the temperature reaches 120 degrees.

On Sunday, you will run into a stadium as tens of thousands of fans cheer and yell your name. For your best friend, there is little difference between Sunday and any other day of the week. There are no adoring fans. There are only people trying to kill him and his soldiers. Every now and then, he and his soldiers leave the front lines and “go to the rear” to rest. He might be lucky enough to catch an NFL game on TV.

When the National Anthem plays and you take a knee, he will jump to his feet and salute the television. While you protest the unfairness of life in the United States, he will give thanks to God that he has the honor of defending his great country.

To the players of the NFL: We are the people who buy your tickets, watch you on TV, and wear your jerseys. We anxiously wait for Sundays so we can cheer for you and marvel at your athleticism. Although we love to watch you play, we care little about your opinions until you offend us. You have the absolute right to express yourselves, but we have the absolute right to boycott you. We have tolerated your drug use and DUIs, your domestic violence, and your vulgar displays of wealth. We should be ashamed for putting our admiration of your physical skills before what is morally right. But now you have gone too far. You have insulted our flag, our country, our soldiers, our police officers, and our veterans. You are living the American dream, yet you disparage our great country. I encourage all like minded Americans to boycott the NFL.

National boycott of the NFL for Sunday November 11th, Veterans Day Weekend. Boycott all football telecast, all fans, all ticket holders, stay away from attending any games, let them play to empty stadiums. Pass this post along to all your friends and family. Honor our military, some of whom come home with the American Flag draped over their coffin.

The creative writer in me is tempted to invent the opposite scenario with an NFL player using his wealth and fame honorably in his community alongside a juvenile delinquent pushed into the military where he abuses others and dishonors America. But then I decided to post it here instead.

Well, there’s your problem.

He’ll jump to his feet and salute like I did because he has to or he’ll be punished.

He won’t give thanks to God for the opportunity to defend the country. He’ll more than likely do exactly what I and thousands of soldiers have done. He’ll listen to music in his headphones while he digs latrine ditches, scramble for sodas in the mess tent, and spend a lot of time bullshitting with other soldiers about how many girls he’s slept with. If he’s in a firefight it will be 4 minutes of chaotic crazy bullshit where he’ll just be praying he shoots the other guy before he gets shot. Then he’ll numb his feelings with illicit alcohol or drugs. He might think about God, but it will be in the “God, I wish I wasn’t here” vein.

And a lot of my wife’s Facebook friends have been pushing this shit, if you want to know the kind of day I am having.

Sampling of the links I’ve been sharing to document how wrong this bullshit is.

The actual CDC page in question

https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nvss/vsrr/covid_weekly/index.htm?fbclid=IwAR2-muRM3tB3uBdbTrmKwH1NdaBx6PpZo2kxotNwkUXlnbZXCwSRP2OmqsI#Comorbidities

They even note different state data can’t be directly compared.

The Seer cancer database, a national survey of cancer death causes

Which I found through the CDC cancer page

https://www.cdc.gov/cancer/uscs/technical_notes/data_sources/mortality.htm

A NIH report on using death certificate data

“Your honor, it’s true my client shot the victim, and it’s true the victim died, but if you look at defense exhibit A, you’ll see that the victim suffered from a heart condition and was a diabetic. Move to dismiss all charges.”

Thanks for the links, Craig! I went down the fb rabbit hole on BLM the past few days and don’t have it in me for this one. Suffice it to say that I don’t have confidence certain folks would read/believe the evidence.

LOL, Scott… mind if I borrow that and give you credit as “my friend Scott?” It’s a lot more succinct than the eight hours I would spend trying to be patient and reasonable and persuasive.

Sure, go for it. I hope it works!

I typically don’t engage with political content from Trump supporters on facebook. In fact, I know of only 1-3 out of almost 300 people in my friends list. But shit has gotten pretty atypical out in the world, so I took some time to respond to a post made by a guy I went to high school with. I’m sharing our quote-unquote discussion here because I find the psychology behind his replies really interesting/soul-crushing.

So he’s looking for a way to justify each of his stances that disagrees with your own. I wonder if you could get him to commit to not sealion if it would be a fruitful discussion?

He’s just looking to take every response and engage in a digression from the main point on that response. Nice of you to give it a try, but I think it’s a waste of time. In your FB friend’s eyes, that man disrespected the authority of the cops and that’s sufficient reason to kill him.

I’ve given that whole “waste of time” notion a lot of thought. I’m honestly not doing it in the hopes of changing his mind or scoring public debate points or anything like that. I realized I’m doing it for myself, like a form of therapy. Before the election, I just need to know that I reached out personally to someone planning on voting for Trump and I attempted to articulate how I feel and what I believe in.

It’s very pollyannish of me, but sometimes I wonder what kind of effect it would have if every Trump supporter had someone reach out honestly and compassionately like I’m attempting to do. It’s like voting, or recycling; if we collectively decide it’s pointless to do it on an individual level, then the whole system falls apart…

But then I re-engage my inner @inactive_user and fuck them, they get nothing.

Your first mistake was expecting a Trump supporter to read a wall o’ text post like that.

If you know of a way to deprogram people in a cult I’d say go for it, otherwise it is in fact a complete waste of time.

Sure, but it isn’t quite that simple, for the personal reasons I already explained.

As for wall o’ text, I’m aware of that (it was the first thing I said) but fuck it. It’s complicated and I wanted to be thorough for my sake, not his. Posting tweets and memes and links to THE BLAZE is a lot easier, of that there is no doubt! :D

(Holy shit, I glanced at the front page of The Blaze and couldn’t believe it. “News” articles about arrested antifa protesters curling up in fetal positions and crying.)

FTFY.

Ha! Well, that’s part of it! We got a really good high school education together! wtf happened??

It is a rare HS class that teaches critical thinking instead of rote memorization and regurgitation of facts. It is no wonder that people trust the things they are then told by authority figures as adults. They just arent used to questioning what their leaders tell them. Similar to religions, where no questioning is tolerated, and people are made into enemies by their questioning.

Not sure how to get people to use their brains differently. Certainly the evidence of their eyes doesnt seem sufficient.
