LOTS of reasons to have a good old crying jag (American Pie 3, The Fast and The Furious 2, Legally Blonde 2, Some Shitty Movie Starring The Assholes From American Idol, Charlie’s Angel 2: No Bill Murray)
And a few reasons to be happy (Johnny English, HULK, 28 Days Later, Bruce Almighty (bite me I wanna see it), The Medallion, Jason Vs. Freddy, Terminator 3…maaaaybe, Jeepers Creepers 2)
I thought the first two American Pies were pretty funny; I am looking forward to this one. Jeepers Creepers 2 and Freddy v. Jason are really the only other ones I care about. JC, the original, I thought was a great concept for a story, though Hollywood rarely can see something like that through the first movie, let alone through a sequel.
We’ll see. Oh, and 28 Days Later will have to be seen after all of the good talk it has gotten here!
Well, I can’t say why everyone else is excited about Freddy v. Jason, but I have always been a cheesy horror film fan. And these series have always been some of the kings of cheese. I loved Jason X, because of how cornball it was, and I am sure this will along the same lines. Its just one of those things: If you go in wanting some high budget, meaningful piece of feelm, you will be sorely disappointed. But if you take it for what it is, a train wreck that you can watch while having a coke and some sour patch kids, then you just might have fun!
Johnny English just isn’t very good. There’s the occasional funny scene (all involving Rowan Atkinson and/or Ben Miller, his sidekick), all of which are so telegraphed one can’t help but feel a postman should hand-deliver them to your seat, separated by what feels like hours of terminally dull shit (literally in one case) such as the complete absence of laughs from John Malkovich or Natalie Imbruglia (easy on the eyes though).
Generally, it’s a film where you can imagine the jokes being constructed by a committee aiming to cover all possible demographics.
Still, it’s the second film I’ve seen which uses a building I’ve worked in.
There you have it - maybe Rowan Atkinson should consider limiting his productions to 30 minutes (like Blackadder for instance), and stay away from the movie format.
MAY 23
Bruce Almighty: After the colossal flop of The Majestic, Jim Carrey takes a break from the dramatic stuff and reteams with his Ace Ventura director Tom Shadyac for this comedy about a TV reporter who becomes omnipotent after God (Morgan Freeman) endows him with divine powers. Jennifer Aniston is his awestruck girlfriend.
Without having seen this film, I am pretty sure it will suck more than anything this summer - and yes - I trust Legally Blond 2 to be better.
I have to admit he has proven himself to be a better actor than I initially thought (Ace Ventura, Dumb and Dumber, etc), when he starred in The Truman Show and Man on the Moon. But when I see a movie with him in it, even the serious ones, I find myself waiting for his next ‘funny face’. Im sorry - Im not laughing.
