Yep the all clear is a moving target. But the updates have shifted from enabling features to bug fixes, performance, and UI improvements. The question is how far should they go before saying all clear? Can they even say “all clear” without someone complaining about something? It’s a tough call.

My guess is any additional pickup will be by word of mouth. Honestly, that’s how I stumbled across SotS in the first place - someone was arguing how much better it was than Sins of a Solar Empire, and I figured I’d find out for myself (editor’s note: they’re both significantly different enough that each has a permanent spot on my hard drive).

If the final state of II is very good, I have no doubt that word will be spread. Once an expansion hits iff that is also good then we’ll likely see a swarm of once-burned fans return. Expansion 2 will then probably be the best chance to expand the consumer base.

So I guess Paradox is sticking by their side then despite the mess of the initial launch?

One can only surmise - there’s been quiet on that front as far as I can tell. Perhaps the mea culpa from Paradox was actually legit, and they intend to make it right. That would be quite refreshing to see in a genre normally dominated by poorly behaving corporations.

AFAIK the next expansion is moving forward. But for those who are new-ish: I’m not part of Kerberos or Paradox so I don’t know what their agreement is.

Hotfix released to Steam. Should be updated soon:

Other fixes:

  • Construction and retrofit costs now include initial drone and assault shuttle costs.
  • It is now possible to select systems in province creation mode once again.
  • No more cube for phaser weapons on drones in the design screen.
  • Queued station modules no longer disappear.
  • Fixed system info demand.
  • Enemy ship construction ETA is no longer visible in system icons.
  • Corrected the direction of trade-related government shifts.
  • Admiral traits no longer cause negative endurance.

Other changes and additions:

  • Beam weapons will now fire for their entire duration and re-target on-the-fly.
  • Empire fleet summary no longer displays empty reserve fleets.

Interest has definitely dwindled since Endless Space made it out (more or less).

Believe me, even the ones who have been following the franchise for years can still be turned away by the company attitude to this day. I know I was.

Well, its working VERY well for me now, UI lag, minimal, I’m into turn 168 and turn times are a dooozy…

This is much more the hardcore 4x now than endless which while I do like it, is a lightweight one.

So, see any AI dreadnaughts yet? Or at least advanced cruisers?

Wow.

I have stayed away from this for over 6 months because of the what happened at launch. I would peek and see complaints still happening.
So I waited… and waited. I figured it has been long enough and the game would all be fixed and they would be doing something new now.

Guess not.

Maybe I will check back in a few more months. Or the one year anniversary.

Um … it’s actually pretty darn close to complete. I have no skin in this effort, but if it’s a genre/game you’re interested in then it would seem kinda silly to wait months or longer when it will likely be done within weeks. As it stands, it’s already fun to play although kinks do still exist.

I just got SotS2 and SotS Complete, in the Amazon bundle. I’ve never played or much looked at either of these two games before.

Should I skip right to SotS2 or start with SotS complete?

Maybe wait a little longer on SotS2 - it’s still in the last round of patching to get it up to proper shape. SotS Complete is an awesome game on its own, and is a great intro to the different races.

edit - and use Rorshach’s awesome wiki site: http://sots.rorschach.net/
and the tech tree: http://ouroborus.org/sots/map.html

Remember that even after the “all clear” there will continue to be updates to the core game before the expansions. SotS 1 had three major updates before Born of Blood was released and that was without the ease of Steam distribution.

If turn times are a doozy, then how is it working “VERY well” for you?

I thought that was a positive expression …

Ahh - it often is, but it generally stands for “really big” or “really significant.”

eg - “That raise you got was a real doozy!” (good)
“That kidney stone you passed was a real doozy!” (NOT good)

I’m glad you asked that question, I was wondering what he meant too.

Performance is still being tweaked but there have been significant improvements.
