They don’t have to. They just have to enforce unrealistic quotas (the UPS problem) or pay a low contract rate per package delivered. Thus if you take a break (and since you are out on the road finding a place to go to the restroom isn’t always the easiest thing) then you are losing money, and that encourages people to do whatever possible to have the smallest amount of breaks possible.

Yea, I think UPS drivers actually do pretty well. I have known a couple guys who have worked/work there.
When they crap in your driveway, it’s because they felt like it, and the union guarantees their right to do so.

It’s funny to think about the calculus there. Because, they basically have to be thinking “Is the GOP already maximally toxic? If so, then pass whatever. But if not, is there any chance that not passing this bill will be worth more than whatever fund-raising value my donors are threatening to cut off?”
Or put another way: “How much in donations will I need to buy enough ads to cancel out the fact that we passed this deeply unpopular bill?”

The GOP is making a heck of a bet here, going all-in on the theory that their real ‘base’ is the donors. They’re willing to screw the middle class, counting on Fox News and 501C3’s to convince voters that it’s someone else’s fault.
It’s literally the opposite of Trump’s populist stance during the election.
