Allegedly I’ll be in Asia in 6 weeks for work, but for now I’m working on a tropical island. This water (with sea caves) is 9 minutes from my house. Tons of turtles, stingrays, etc. I have seen more scorpionfish than I like, though, and one bull shark. I am cautious around them.
I’ve also been working on posting pictures I took last summer. Most of these are cellphone pictures, so poor quality. More later!

I’m kinda wondering if images aren’t showing up because the thread is too big?

I’ve switched gears a bit from landscapes to portrait photography, using my 4x5 film camera.
Mostly happy with the results, but I still need to work on my lighting and posing.

Wow, those are incredible pictures.
So apparently, 4x5 wasn’t quite big enough for me, and I decided to take the plunge into 8x10 with the Calumet C-1 (affectionately known in the industry as “The Black Beast”).
The pictures make this thing look big, but… it’s hard to describe. Over 20lbs with the lens, and nearly three feet long fully extended. My Intrepid 4x5 looks and feels like a child’s toy in comparison.
It makes my big Berlebach tripod look flimsy
And here it is next to my 4x5 and my Fuji x100t
The lens itself is almost 3lbs and about the size of a dinner plate.
It’s as big as you can get before crossing the threshold into Ultra Large Format! Hopefully I’ll have some pictures up soon shot on it. (Just need to set up a proper dark room first in order to actually load the film…)

It is a new camera? They still make camera’s like that today? Is the film easy to get?
They do still make 8x10 cameras, but this particular one is from the late 70s or early 80s. And film is available, but expensive: about $5 per sheet for B&W, and up to $30 a sheet for color. The exception is medical x-ray film, which is readily available in that size for under $0.40/ea. It’s slow, and only sensitive to blue/green light, but cheap. Probably what I’ll be shooting with for a while.
The nicest playground in Seattle.

New we just need some nice weather to enjoy it. I am ready for spring, but it doesn’t seem to be coming in the next week.
The Seattle skyline always reminds me of little kid drawings, because it has a little bit of everything, from seaplanes landing on the water, to snow capped mountains in the background, to rolling hills, skyscrapers and bridges. That’s a great pic @Woolen_Horde!
That photo was taken yesterday. As always, we get blue skies on Friday and Monday, but the weekend itself is showers and cloudy. If I went right now, I’d get Rainier dominating the horizon.
Here’s a closer look at the skyline. All those towers behind the Space Needle are basically Amazon. They didn’t exist 10 years ago. Hell, that silver tower that’s almost as tall as Columbia didn’t exist two years ago. It’s actually slightly shorter than Columbia, but closer from this vantage.
There’s a Supertall (1,000+ feet) in the works that will be taller than Columbia.

Will there be a primary resident for the supertall?
