Picked up a new light and decided to try another self-portrait.

Wow, great lighting! Amazing beard!

Love it, what a great photo - it’s like looking at a story.

Thanks for putting into words what I was feeling. Great photo

Fantastic lighting, I love the highlights it gives. I too am also envious of people that grow majestic looking beards. When I had one it was so wiry and hard to train at all. I gave up after a year and a half.

I’m not entirely happy with the reflection of light in the eyes, which I find slightly dull and unpleasant in shape, but it looks good elsewhere. My beard and hair was made for black and white photography.

Regarding the beard, I mistreated it for many years, back when I kept it short. Once I decided to go full wizard, I began oiling and brushing it on a daily basis, which made an enormous difference in texture and form.

@anonymgeist, for a moment I thought you were Alan Moore. Very nice photo.

For a moment I thought he was Jesus. Then I remembered Jesus doesn’t exist, so he must be a character from The Last Kingdom.

So what I’m getting from all of this is that I need to buy a robe and start a cult.

Do your post your work anywhere? Flickr, etc?

Pretty much just Instagram. It’s not ideal, but it’s quick and convenient.

Thanks, followed. Love your stuff.

Do you mostly shoot film?

Thanks!

And yeah, mostly. I’ve got my Nikon DSLR which I use occasionally, but I mostly shoot on film; and primarily medium or large format. I use digital mostly as practice, or for shots I don’t really care much about.

Henry is an asshole, but he’s adorable so he generally gets his way.

Ftfy, with some grammatical correction along the way.

LOL fair.

Maybe a small fill light or reflector on the opposite lighting side or aiming toward your face?

For what it is worth, anon (always hard for me to be serious for a moment) but that is an amazing and wonderful photograph. If you don’t work in photography, you should consider it.

He could also start a YouTube channel on film photography.

(There are a few really good ones, that alway make me want to try it.)

Thank you!

And no, it’s just a hobby. But I was just starting to get more seriously into portrait photography when COVID hit. Maybe it’s time to get back on that.
