I’m off to a firework display tomorrow and never photographed one before so had a play with my son and a sparkler tonight. Shots taken hand held using bulb mode. Tomorrow I will have a monopod with me (no tripods allowed).
There is a child in there somewhere :)
Anyways I thought these came out well.

More from the DC trip. Not sure I’m particularly thrilled with these but…
This one gives me chuckles… the Jetfire exhibit. We have quite a few of the early Jetfire toys, which were all old Macross Super Valkyrie imports, which is amusing (and they have these here):

Really like this one Alan, would love to get shots of the Shuttle but not likely in the UK.
Really hoping to get out this weekend and do some shooting had very little chance recently.

Spent a day in the woods yesterday:

You look just like your name.
Was doing some photo processing tonight to catch up and, ooh, there’s some good fog outside. I took a few samplers:
Then I’m like, oooh wait, I can do some long exposures on Vermont. These two are different exposures/ISOs so the lighting is a bit different:

Random shots from Texas (non-racetrack related):

The second Vermont St shot and the first Texas shot are both amazing (and a great study in contrast!)
The first one was one I thought that if I got it right it’d be really good. Just open sky and a clear plain of glass. Then I looked across the road and saw the cows and almost got the exact same shot. But I wanted the cows in there.
After some deliberations I picked up a slightly used iMac today. It’s main purpose is to serve as photo/video editing and whatever else I can slam on there, and leave gaming to the PC (and since I have Adobe Creative Cloud I can just load everything on it, no problem) so that means new Lightroom 4.2 and everything else. I went back to that first shot and did some processing from scratch to see what I wanted to make out of it. For comparison, here’s the one from before:
And here’s today:
There’s not a huge amount of difference; the sky is a little darker in the center, and I lightened up the ground a bit (which I could have done previously I admit). Some chromatic abberations have been removed, and finally I can adjust for some lens distortion (3.6 had no idea what my Tokina was for some reason).
It looks great on an iMac.

Some Circuit of the Americas stuff. Not finished with this stuff though not sure I’m happy with them–the sun was in a lot of stuff and I forgot to speed up on the long-distance to get better contrast. Meh.
Roger is in a few of these shots :)

All of those are awesome, Alan. :)

Sweet pics. And kind of a neat idea for that other guy to gopro the whole race too (I mean, why not, right? Its only flash memory).
The shots are beautiful too. Reminds me of all the pictures I thought I was taking when I brought my 3MP digital camera for the race in Montreal back in 2006.
The guy with the Gopro miiiiight be Roger :)

Not knowing much about race tracks…what is that big weird red waterslide tube thing?

Probably the race control observation tower. They are usually not that tall, or ornate, but they are designed and situated in a place that can view all of the track to monitor the race.
EDIT: wikipedia says that this one specifically is an observation tower for the public (for a fee).
Yup, it’s just an observation tower. You go up for $35.
