Is that a fire fighting operation or something? Great shot, but what’s going on there?

I converted a couple bitcoins into a Lumix FZ200 before the bubble burst a couple of weeks ago. I’m still learning how to use it. This little rascal has been helping:

Yeah, it’s a chemical retardant drop ahead of an advancing fire front (the smoke on the right). There’s some evidence of a previous drop at the extreme lower right.

Alan is correct across the board. The area to the right was heavily wooded and also contained the stockpile of explosives at the USFS compound, so there were 2 heavy tankers and 4 helicopters working to protect the area.

Flowers. And more flowers.
Yellow rose of… Sunnyvale.

Great colors on those, Case. In the first one especially, it really looks like it’s popping off the screen (and I don’t even have a very nice screen!).

Yep. It was around 7:00PM, sun low in the sky, and the lighting was perfect.
Nice. If it’s a large, I’ll wear it! :)

Yep, that first photo’s a stunner, Case.

The heather is breathtaking Reemul.
The critters here are enjoying the Spring as well.

A lathe. A really big lathe. This lathe has a train axle and wheels loaded in it.

Trip to Brownsea Island today. Superb weather best of the year so far. It’s a national trust heritage site (see link). Got a few shots.
The main castle on the Island, on a 99 year lease to The John Lewis Group who hire it out to their staff only.

Found this abandoned Tractor.

That tractor just screams for some vintage 70s photoshop filter application.
I’ve just begun typing in my wife’s and I’s journals from our honeymoon to Egypt and Greece back in 1994 on my blog and would like to scan the pictures to upload as well. I only have a HP 3300 All-in-One at the moment – is there a better, relatively cheap ($100 - $200, max), more efficient scanner out there I should be looking at?
Actually, read up some more and it seems my HP (it’s actually a 3310, I was mistaken) is probably good enough for what I need. Scan speed is a little slow and I’m not overly fond of it not being sheet fed, but it’ll do.
I’m back from a 3-day weekend trip to Yosemite and the eastern Sierra Nevada.

Bridalveil, Glacier Point, Bridalveil again, back side of Half Dome, Yosemite Falls?
Not Half Dome but it’s the south side of Polly Dome. I’m not sure if that part of the formation has a name but that’s the name of the overall structure.
I have quite a few more of the backcountry…
