How do you link imgur images without the obnoxious cutting off of the thumbnail so you have to click it and go to their site to view the entire image?

The base link they give is to the image holding page. If you append .jpg to the end of it, it’ll be a direct image link, that Discourse one-boxing seems to automatically make larger and generally seems to like more.

Since a lot of my food pics are larger than Qt3’s upload supports, I have had to get pretty used to continuing to use Imgur for my image-hosting needs. I thought this was supposed to be easier, @wumpus ;) (I kid, I kid, I know you guys don’t wanna host my 4mb blurry-ass pictures).

Caramelizing onions takes forever but it’s so worth it :D

(Hey wow that worked. Thanks again Armando :D)

Want a big batch of caramelized onions? Have a slow cooker and half a day?

Yes, yes and yes :D

Meanwhile:

This is what I’m talkin’ about:

Wish I had some better bread to do this with, but I didn’t feel like making dough today. Mayo just for CraigM :P

Slather on a thick layer of pimento cheese:

Nice crispy bacon:

I don’t think Armando’s original version was grilled-cheeseified like mine, but I thought maybe it would make up for the cheap bread somewhat haha. It’s pretty good, but it was an awful lot of effort for what amounts to a fancy grilled cheese. That being said, the ingredients play off each other well. The bacon is crunchy and smoky, the avocado adds a creamy mellowness, the onions give it some sweetness, and then it’s all encased in the gooey cheese and there’s even a little spiciness from the pimentos. Will eat again, if only because I still have leftovers to make a couple more ;) Thanks for the tip Armando! :D

Yeah, the original was more or less served cold (catering, am I right?), but I definitely grilled mine a little on the panini press when I made it at home.

Glad you enjoyed :-D

Hope this isn’t a derail, I think it fits here. I’m looking to buy a waffle maker. I know I could get an All-Clad for $100 that would be perfect. But I’m not spending that much. $50 is my upper limit. I’m looking at this:

https://www.amazon.com/BLACK-DECKER-G48TD-Waffle-Griddle/dp/B000063XH7

Any suggestions?

I know it breaks the $50 barrier, so I apologize in advance if this isn’t immediately helpful. . . BUT it does go on sale on Groupon/woot/etc. fairly frequently (which is how i got mine):
https://www.amazon.com/Cuisinart-GR-4N-Griddler-Silver-Black/dp/B002YD99Y4?th=1

The waffle plates are separate:
https://www.amazon.com/Cuisinart-GR-WAFP-Griddler-Waffle-Plates/dp/B00452NT2U/ref=pd_bxgy_79_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=236YTTNCDBERJP65DEYK

Which also doesn’t help cost issues, but it’s the one I have direct and constant experience with at home, and I really, really like it a lot.

The B&D seems like it’s kind of a simpler, maybe somewhat smaller version of this same kinda thing, and it’s reasonably well reviewed.

To be fair, it might be the case that for $50 or under, you just wanna get the best single purpose tool you can find.

https://www.amazon.com/Presto-FlipSide-Belgian-Waffle-7-inch/dp/B000TYBWIG/ref=sr_1_2?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1477686491&sr=1-2&keywords=waffle+maker&refinements=p_72%3A1248915011

for instance, is exceedingly well-reviewed, though, like a LOT of models, the plates aren’t removeable (which would drive me crazy).

The Kitchen Gadgetry thread is this way, but it doesn’t have much to say about waffle irons.

I like the idea of home-made waffles, but OTOH I really don’t want yet another boutique electrical appliance. Maybe a stove-top waffle iron is the answer?

Damn, I forgot that thread. Sorry all.

Remember, a waffle maker is awesome in that you can waffle ALL THE THINGS.

I think maybe the best thing to waffle is hashbrowns.

This is my focus. This is my life. Just read a piece about waffling cheese.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck

Here. Wipe the drool off of your chin, buddy. :)

Yes! I do Thanksgiving leftovers in the waffle maker. Use the stuffing as waffles and shredded leftover turkey and cranberry sauce for the toppings. It’s kind of like chicken and waffles. Except different.

So even though @ArmandoPenblade made a really good point for a different device, I ordered the B&D. Thanks for the help. It will be here tomorrow. Then the Waffling Begins. I have so much cheese that needs to be reconstructed. I have Bisquick. I have mashed potatoes…

So much food so little time. And with Thanksgiving on the horizon… I am verklempt. Talk amongst yourselves. Question: I had to add verklempt to my dictionary, will you?

Best of luck with the B&D, Rich! There’s really nothing quite like waffles in your own home. Or waffled turkey. However you roll, it’s gonna be brilliant!

Topic: Waffling. It’s all like buttah!

Waffles made with stuffing is insane and amazing.

Did the setup stuff. Washed the plates. Just need to season them with oil, which confuses me a bit. Tonight’s dinner will be waffled something. Earlier I was collecting the ingredients for falafel. Never made it, but now I can’t help but think that I may not need to fry it. Falafel waffles has a lovely ring to it. :) As for tonight, anything is possible.
