I bought my first house yesterday.

I must now go strip wallpaper.

Congrats! Nice trees…

Congrats!

That looks like an obnoxiously hilly yard to maintain, so best of luck with that. Though on the flipside I bet with that setup you won’t get a lot of problems with water in the basement.

Thanks. The plan is for my wife and her mother, the Master Gardeners, to turn it into a tiered, landscaped garden-thingy. I’m all for less mowing.

There are great trees on the property. The previous owner lived there since 1938. He planted one of the trees in 1945, when his brother didn’t come back from WWII. He was 8.

Very nice digs!!

Meh, you just pretend you’re in Europe.

You’re morally obligated to never cut that tree down now, you know.

With a story like that, I’d certainly never be able to even seriously consider cutting it down.

I think I see a boy in the window.

Nice house Dean. I see you have room for Fonzie above the garage.

We’ve almost bought a house, well, a townhouse actually. It’s nowhere near as awesome looking as Dean’s is, but it does have 3 bedrooms and a large finished basement that will be perfect for what I’ve dubbed “The Nerd Cave.”

here are some pictures, mostly of the interior. The exterior front it pretty boring.

It needs a bit of love, seeing as how it’s a foreclosure, but luckily most of it is cosmetic, other than having to replace the water heater (Bank didn’t make sure the home was winterized properly and it went kablooey.)

We close in 10 days.

Nice looking place. I’m jealous. We’ve just sold our place. Since we bought the place at the exact wrong time and have had to sell it at the exact wrong time we are taking a big hit financially and are back to renting until we save up enough to put a deposit down on a new place. This should take about three or four years, just in time for this buyer’s market to turn into a seller’s market again. It’s all pretty depressing really.

I am so out of practice working on my car. Had a hell of a time knocking an outer tie rod free, even wrote it off and wailed on it so much I rounded off the stud. Then I remembered my good ol’ penetrating lube, PB Blaster. A few squirts, 30 minutes, and it came out with two hits. Of course, then I had to hacksaw off the stud. So silly.

Can’t wait to pick up another car so I don’t have to fret about getting this one repaired in order to toot around town.

Very cool house, congrats! You may rescind your excitement when you start shoveling your driveway however.

Congrats man! Home ownership is the awesomest burden ever.

I think that’s why he told me. The problem is, it’s got vines all over it, choking the life out of it. I’m hoping the Master Gardeners can help.

Spent the day stripping wallpaper and getting quotes from floor guys.

And yes, there is a room over the garage for Fonzi, in fact it’s wood paneled and has yellow, orange, and brown astroturf on the floor. The place was decorated very tastefully, for 1979. We found beautiful hardwood floors under all the wall-to-wall shag carpet.

There’s even a working fireplace.

We were poised for the real estate bubble to burst and got this house for way less than we would have paid a year ago. In fact, we couldn’t have bought this house a year ago.

New York trip is go! As we booked everything so late, we didn’t get to take the train with the business class seats and conference table like we initially wanted. That said, we booked with Greyhound and they apparently have outlets and WiFi on the buses now. Booked a room at a cheap Days Inn in the Upper West Side just off Central Park. Not a great location, but we’re young so we can hoof it.

Still don’t know exactly what we’re doing. We wanna hit a couple of comic book shops and video game stores, but we have no clue about bars or restaurants.

Oh, we’re also going to the New Zealand Consulate building and Mohumbhai & Son. Right, band meeting!

Today I completed the final week of the Couch-to-5K plan and I have to say I’m pretty pleased with the results. The program calls for you to jog either by a set time or distance. I’ve been using time since it’s easier to track (I use a path at a park rather than a formal track).

Week 9 calls for jogging a full 30 minutes (or 5K). All week I have been jogging well past the 5K mark – 6.3K Friday and over 8K on both Monday and Wednesday. On Wednesday it was mainly because my watch suddenly started losing time so I ran an extra 7 minutes without realizing it. :P My stamina has greatly improved and my pace has picked up, too. I’ve shaved an average of 30 seconds or so off each .58K lap.

I highly recommend this program for anyone looking to get back into running and thanks to whoever posted it here on Qt3 originally. I’d have never imagine a year ago that I could run 8K without a break. Onto 10K!

You’re doing all that running and you’re hitting up dating websites? Dude, go to the fucking park and chase down a prospective lover.

Celebrated my one year anniversary with my fiance of our first meeting/first date. Spent just about a week’s pay on a 7-course tasting menu dinner and drinks, but it was probably the best meal and service I’ve ever had, and just a perfect dinner date.
