Sex?

I laughed out loud when I heard about what a friend of my girlfriend said when he saw Karl Rove at Half Price Books here in Austin a few days ago. He asked him “So, destroyed any civilizations recently?” Karl reportedly grimaced and sauntered away.

Later, the same friend got in line behind Mr. Rove at the checkout counter, and begged him to sign a copy of Dante’s Inferno.

Mr. Rove isn’t very popular in Austin.

Hearing about people making fun of Rove is interesting, but I’m curious to know what Rove’s reading habits are. Does your friend know what Rove was buying?

Best thing I have come across in the wedding planning process was an advertisement that said, “Worried about underarm sweat on your wedding day? You should be! Get BOTOX injected into your UNDERARMS and have a sweat-free day!”

So my dev lead walked by my desk today and dropped off a brand new HTC Hero which is now my personal phone.

Damn if this job doesn’t have some nice perks.

It always throws me when I see someone cross-posting the same thing on different forums that I (and apparently they) frequent. It’s a weird deja vu moment.

This is the view a few feet from my house:

JPL is there in the eastern corner. Fortunately I’m vacationing in Carlsbad, way away from the smoke. corsair who is dogsitting for me, took this picture.

The shorter exposure so less over-glowed version,Without the Jet Propulsion Lab in the lower right. (Corsair posting from Lorini’s computer)

You would think the combined mind power of JPL could come up with an instant solution to this silly fire problem…slackers.

Oops I deleted my picture because I thought I’d double posted. Here it is again, with JPL in the eastern corner. This is a few feet from my house but I’m on vacation in Carlsbad so I’m not breathing all the smoke:

In a weird way I almost miss the summer Californian fires since I moved to Seattle. My dad is an ex-game warden so whenever we’d see the smoke we’d always hop in the truck and see how close we could get, fun times.

Corsair’s update: The fire advanced down the ridge during the night - didn’t feel like lugging my tripod down to the dam again, but it was spectacular (in a concerning sort of way). It seems to have advanced to the east (right in the photos) to the ridge above the lab where it is burning furiously on the north side (far side of the ridge on the extreme right in the photo). Smoke is rising straight so little wind thankfully. The homes on the left ridge are the ones that may have been evacuated but it seems under control there.

Update for Lorini from Corsair:

Far less interesting than Lorini’s but

Rose has decided that she wants to feed herself with the spoon, like a big girl.

And that’s how well it’s working out for her.

Hey, at least she’s ambitious. I still don’t eat with a spoon.

That’s small potatoes mess wise. Give her spaghetti in a rich meat sauce and have your camera standing by. You’ll get some pictures you can treasure forever.

Fixed that for you.

As Angie’s pictures clearly show, she already knows to keep the messes confined to easily cleaned floors :)

Indeed. Angie, I’m thinking it might be easier just to pour the food on the floor since that’s where it’ll end up anyway, then hose down the room afterwards.*

*) Not really.

To be fair, some of it did get into her mouth. Some of it even got there via spoon.
