Reminds me a bit of when my niece discovered peanut butter and spoons.

Hahahahaha, reminds me off when my oldest daughter found prunes and spoons, two separated messes. :P

Hmm, the fire is now on two fronts. One front is moving my way, the other TomChick’s way. This oughta be interesting :)

What’s his post count at?

Yeah, he does.

He saw me sign the check.

Two little things:

  1. I’ve lost 25 pounds.

  2. Monday I started back to college for the first time since I was 18. I keep vacillating between “Holy shit this is awesome and I love it!” and “What the hell am I doing I’m going to fail miserably OMG SO OVERWHELMED!” Overall it’s a good thing, though, and I’m quite excited. (Even if I did spend the last two days doing homework, and am doing more today. And tomorrow. I think I can forget about having a social life for the next four years…)

I went on my yearly trip to Tivoli today (one of the worlds oldest amusement parks). Tried the new ride Vertigo four times, pulled 5G while going backwards and think I can cross out 178 centimeters on my passport and write in 175 cm instead… at least that’s how I felt coming off the final ride.

I came home last night. The smoke is horrific. It smells like I have an active charcoal BBQ in every room. 10,000 homes are now threatened (not on the evacuation list but they could be). Right now, they are saving JPL and our neighborhood along with it. I do hope Tom is ok as the fire is advancing into Tujunga.

So your home will be OK, Lorini? That’s good to hear.

Returned home from NY last night. It was a great trip, but I’m glad we didn’t spend more than the three full days there. Day one we went into Chinatown and hit all the Flight of the Conchords locations. We got the dumplings at Sweet Spring just down from their apartment (five for $1.25!) and then met the real Mohumbhai, who gave us a tour of his shop and explained how HBO filmed there. He said he gets around ten Conchord fans a day coming to the shop. We also saw the New Zealand consulate building. We’re such geeks.

We did some random touristy stuff, like visit ground zero, which was sad and depressing on so many levels. It’s been eight years and they’re still using a temporary museum and memorial, and the entire site itself is blocked off, although there’s not much to see as it’s just a large hole in the ground. Did they just like the weather destroy all the posters and flyers and pictures people had put there, or did they remove them? While we were down there we ate at the Stage Door deli, which I remember reading about a couple of years after 9/11 as they nearly had to shut down.

We saw Time’s Square, went to Nintendo World and the big Apple Store (both a bit of a disappointment, although I’m neither a huge Apple or Nintendo fan), saw Rockefeller, the Empire State Building, St. Patrick’s, and all the other stuff in that area. Went into Jim Hanley’s Universe, which was cool, but no better than Toronto’s Silver Snail. Of course I go in there and buy Lute’s Jar of Fools, which is probably the same price in Canada. Some of the stuff was way cheaper (I think Gaiman’s 1602 was $10 cheaper than the Canadian price), other stuff was basically the same price when you take the dollar value difference into account.

We went to Chinatown Fair Video Arcade and got rocked at SFIV. It was a cool atmosphere in there though. It seemed like everyone kinda knew each other, and it was almost like being in a Tokyo fashion district. There were actually girls dressed up like 1990 ravers. Saw a dude bring his grey PS2 controller with stuffed animals tied to the cord to play Tekken 6.

Rest of the trip was made up of us eating and drinking. Ate at Shake Shack (holy crap that’s a good burger), the Soup Man (nothing special, and quite pricey), and a random place in Little Italy (good, but then again, Toronto’s Italian is great, too). My favourite stuff was the little diners and delis, though.

Considering how little we planned, it was a great trip. It’s gonna take me a couple of days to recover.

My wife and I, along with another couple, stayed in a cabin in the mountains this weekend. We were visited by two feral pigs (or boars) trying to break their way in. While we were out looking at them, one managed to sneak into the house, and one got his head lodged in the railings of the deck. Video tape of the incident is here, I’m the guy who carries the one pig out of the house:

Oh, and while tubing yesterday, a Copperhead crossing the stream passed about a foot away from me. I did not notice it until about three feet away, and I handled it poorly (splashing and kicking it away from me). Fortunately it passed on by as though it didn’t see me.

Way better than Razorback, would watch again.

Heard the Virgin Festival while sitting on my back porch last night, so I hopped on the motorcyle and parked at the mall. All that could be heard was basically the trance stage because it was so loud. I did get to hear Blink 182 play a song when the Trance DJ took a break. It was pretty cool.

Ha Ha LT. He certainly did make a funny sound when you picked him up.

Now on my 5th day of apartment ownership. i’ve cooked and gone shopping for myself. Its liberating.

Woohoo i’m almost an adult now!

Ugh. It probably doesn’t qualify as interesting, but I think I just bombed a conference call phone interview. I am sobbing so hard now I am going to be sick. I have never, ever done well on a phone interview.

:(

Good on ya! After I got separated I had much the same thing happen, just wait till you have to go do the wash. :)

Dont stress it. The nice thing about a phone interview is at least you dont have to look at them while you are bombing.

I thought for sure I failed my phone interview for my current job. It was a technical interview with lots of questions I simply didn’t know the answer too. When they called a few days later and offered me the job I was amazed. So keep your fingers crossed.

The worst interview I ever had was the time I interviewed to be a Zamboni driver.

True story.

I went down to the local arena
And asked to see the manager man
He came from his office, said “Son, can I help you?”
I looked at him and said, “Yes, you can”

'Cause I wanna drive the Zamboni
I wanna drive the Zamboni
Yeah, I wanna drive the Zamboni
I wanna drive the Zamboni
Yes I do

Ever since I’s young, it’s been my dream
That I would drive the Zamboni machine
I’d get that ice just as slick as can be
And all the kids would look up to me

The manager said, “Son, I know it looks keen
But that right there’s one expensive machine
And I got Smokey, who’s been drivin’ for years”
About that time, I broke down in tears

'Cause I wanna drive the Zamboni
I wanna drive the Zamboni
Yeah, I wanna drive the Zamboni
I wanna drive the Zamboni
Yes I do
