Yeah jobs are kinda crazy right now, my best friend works for one of the credit bureaus, and has had to spend the last month in Costa Rica, basically training the people that are going to replace his department. When he comes back, he has to take an unpaid furlough also.
I told him to apply to Blizzard, if any company in S CA is going to have stability, they will (and they actually have an opening in his line of work, too.)

Oh, thank you! I am shocked that I found one as soon as I did, to be honest. I was bracing myself for a six month search at a minimum. It is such a huge relief.

Well after being terminated by JPL, I don’t get unemployment because they haven’t been paying me in the last two years because I was on medical leave of absence. I should have applied for unemployment when I first was put on medical leave of absence apparently, but since I was still employed by JPL and was getting benefits, I didn’t think I would qualify. Does anyone know what I could do about this if anything?? I’m like dumbstruck right now.

I shot a national commercial (for the Patriots and Visa) today with McG. While I hold things like Supernatural and his name against him, he was actually pretty nice. It was my first time ever doing anything like that and I had a great time. They asked me to come back for more stuff on Sunday which is pretty cool and I think I’ll end up with some face time. Maybe face time in a sea of people, but still!
I also got my final draft on my thesis back with a couple notes on things that need to be changed and what I wanted to hear from my advisor: don’t send it back to me, send it to the dean. So it’s highly possible I’ll actually be able to graduate in November!

I thought Antarctica was the antarctic of the south?
Glad it’s over for ya. I had a polyp too the first time I went in, that’s why I went back in for the follow-up. they told me 6 years, but i am such a procrastinator it was more like 15. Not the smartest thing to put off, but lack of health insurance will do that.
Here’s hoping there are no future developments!
Did you just wake up from 4 years of slumber?
Yeah, for realz, these days you’re supposed to just post “TWSS” Get with the times dude.
BTW I still think it’s funny.

That’s also what she said.

Jason, you probably shoulda given the student some grief. If he’s going to deal with patients, the guy’s got to learn to at least fake some empathy.
Also, this ain’t happening to me, mmalloy is off to her second day of shooting. She’s hanging out with the Patriots and getting pics with the cheerleaders, who I am disappointed to discover are just called The New England Patriots Cheerleaders rather than the Patriettes.
That wasn’t me, it was Scrax. Unless Scrax’s real name is Jason…

So er, I got home from work on Tuesday and found this was happening, so my girlfriend and I had to move out for three days. Drama. No damage whatsoever to our flat, not even a smokey smell, but the communal hallway was kind of a wreck and there’s a lot of water damage to some of the other flats. His was the flat next door to ours on the floor above, but the layout of the building means we don’t share any walls or anything.
Still not sure what actually happened up there; I’ve never seen the guy who did it the whole time I’ve been there, but apparently he is a 6’8 nutbasket in a permanent neckbrace with a raft of conspiracy theories and the victim was his brother, or something. It’s actually a really nice building and stuff in terms of the other tenants, in an okay area. Just shows you never know your neighbours right? We just stayed with my landlord for a couple of days and got back in on Friday. The police were all really helpful. Really surreal stuff - just about settling back into reality now!
So my work all dried up a couple months ago. Apparently, cable channels aren’t really so big on paying for games for the websites in this here recession. That and my primary client no longer exists as a channel.
So we (by which I mean the 2 people who make up my “company”) decided to do an iPhone game. To keep things simple and get our feet wet we decided to do something for preschoolers. We both have 3 year old kids, so we had free beta testers handy. Anyway, Monkey Preschool Lunchbox has been up for a couple weeks now, and it’s selling great. Still not a ton of money yet, but it’s fun to sell directly to consumers for once rather than building stuff for clients.
We’ve actually been in the “top 100 paid” apps a bunch. The most amusing thing is that our peak sales time appears to be saturday & sunday morning. As in “holy crap I’m hung over, how can I get the kid to stop screaming? Uh, let me buy an app… there, a few minutes of quiet finally”. Parents are so predictable.

Congrats Marged! Nice to see someone land on their feet.
So how long did it take to put that app together? If it was relatively simple (the actual -game- looks relatively simple, but that doesn’t mean programming it was) then I guess I can begin to see how iPhone devs make things work. If you can and are willing, I’m sure some other folks than myself might be interested in how the net economics work out. (Although perhaps in a Hardware & Tech thread would be more apropos.)
Regardless though, good luck selling more.
Bought it.
The kids are always asking to play with my iPhone, so they might as well learn stuff. I lack visual clues on the counting game (so kids like mine, that don’t speak English can play too) and a variation on difficulty levels on games like the match two one would be nice - but for 99 cents I’m not complaining.
Edit: And my wife the english teachers says that the visual cue (word) in the game where you have to match a letter to a fruit shouldn’t be coloured too, since kids will just pick the right colour and not learn the shape of the letter.

I don’t have an iPhone, or an iPod Touch, but if I did, you bet your ass I’d buy this game, my kids would love it. Good for you. :)
To contribute, I finally stopped being weird, and tried chicken salad with sliced grapes and walnuts in it that my Girlyfriend made. Normally I hate fruit/meat combos, but the grapes oddly reminded me of ripe tomatoes.

I went deep sea fishing on a 22 hour over night trip, and it wasn’t fun at all.
I wasn’t sea sick, but since I was somewhat new, I can’t handle the whole “troll fishing”, wasn’t fast enough to hook my bait and throw it out before the captain tell us to break line…
