I don’t want to fill up the thread too much, but thank you for the kind words, and best wishes to those dealing with this and other disorders. Maybe we need to start a mental health thread.

That is a great idea.

I climbed the Pinnacles in Sarawak, Malaysia with my wife. My own photos of the experience are pretty crappy, so here’s a website with some better photos and some text describing what it entails. Also visited the famous Mulu caves around the area, including the Deer Cave with the swarms of bats flying out of it in the evening and the Clearwater Cave which holds what is apparently one of the longest underground rivers in the world.

Both of us were completely unprepared for how hard it was, having been misinformed by our tour agent. We weren’t even properly instructed in what equipment to bring. We thought that it would make for a good warm up exercise for our planned ascent of Mount Kinabalu early next year but once we arrived, everyone told us Mount Kinabalu is a cakewalk for anyone who can make it to the top of the Pinnacles.

We did make it to the top but the descent was far harder than the ascent. Overall, it was easily the most physically exhausting thing I’d ever done.

Just found out that there will be another round of layoffs. Time to get on the merry-go-round of rumor and speculation again.

Good Luck Juste, I think I’m safe for another 3 months.

Yeah it’s gonna be a couple of months until the hammer falls here as well. My department is the only one making money at the moment so we are hoping that the will stay away from us. But if they will be making cuts here my position is probably one of the more unsafe ones.

We were doing a spotlight survey last night of a river in Cape York. Coming back to the boat ramp we find a 9 foot adult female sitting there with a large catfish in her jaws, so we watch enthralled for a few minutes until she got a bit nervous and submerged, cursing as we forgot as usual to break out the video camera. We then tried to get the boat on the trailer, which was an epic struggle between man and machine resulting in yours truly falling backwards into the water right where our croc had been sitting. Fortunately she was enjoying her dinner elsewhere. The main casualty was my mobile phone, which was switched on when it got waterlogged. Predictably enough it seems to be totally dead, and it was hours before we got back to camp so no drying out with solvent.

Dude, you just described the most cliched setup for a horror movie ever.

This is a much stranger story if you don’t notice you posted it.

Today two guys got their marching orders on our side.

I was awoken by a call from a nice woman informing me that my “Little Monsters” poster was unavailable. I was very confused, and then I remembered the plan I enacted last night to fill my living room with bad movie posters.

God damn it, that poster is amazing.

I am really wanting to spend 17 bucks for this one though.

Peanut butter and onions!?

I attended my first birth as a doula today.

Well, last night and today. I was at the birth center from 11pm to 6am last night, and then again from 11am to 6pm today. Long, long early labor.

But! It was a normal, unmedicated birth, and mom, dad, and baby are all doing well. They are such rockstars!

Wife’s water broke (we think) today. Tomorrow baby comes or we might have her induced - 10 days “late” now hehehe.

How exciting! Good luck to you both.

Yay fire! Yay natural babies!

BABIES EVERYWHERREEEEE!

FOUR HUNDRED BABIES

ONE MILLION BABIES!!!1!

Ah the 80s… hammer cocked back, finger sitting on the trigger (if there’s even one there, I can’t tell). Great poster just for the hilarious gun handling.
