^ ever since I did my army reserve training poor trigger control has really bugged me as well!

From my facebook status: The baby is pretty big (that’s my Phillips side coming through!) making labour a bit slow and Laura is exhausted after no sleep and contractions all night. So epidural is in and baby will be induced later. Birth either this afternoon or evening seems very likely*

What was it about the 80s that made it cool for guys to rub back to back? Movie posters are one example, and the dual guitarists gaying it up in hair band concerts are the other that come to mind.

Today I saved the baby from choking. She thanked me by puking down my front and then laughing.

Babies are such ingrates! Well done Leah :)

I saved my toddler from drowning last weekend, when he slipped and went underwater in the kiddie pool. A good reminder not to take these things lightly, and be right there at all times when water is involved. I think I need to brush up on my cpr/resuscitation stuff, its been years. Luckily he just coughed it all up and was OK.

Also, congrats by proxy to Fire!

My luck with this thesis thing keeps on rollin’!

I handed in my thesis to the dean for a final format review on the 16th. She recommended that I give a copy to my co-advisor, a guy that was just standing in as the ‘anchor’ so that I could work with my ‘real’ advisor who was not associated with the school. I emailed it to him and he requested that I walk a printed copy over to his office. I did, but he wasn’t there, so I left it right outside his door (it was too thick to squeeze under it) and he emailed me back about an hour later thanking me and congratulating me on having completed a piece of original research.

Today I get an email from the dean. That guy is wondering why I never gave him a paper copy of my thesis. I responded that I’d WALKED A COPY OVER IMMEDIATELY UPON HIM ASKING FOR IT. Her response is ‘oh, dear.’

Which means that I now have to figure out where the hell he is, get him a copy, and hope he fucking reads it in two minutes and stamps a good grade on it without asking me to edit anything since he’s had no input into the process whatsoever, otherwise it’s goodbye to graduation AGAIN since the printer needs at least a two week turnaround time and I have to have the bound copy in before November 1st to graduate.

ARGH

Thank you for yet again validating my opinions on academia.

Hope you can cut the red tape, jump through the hoops, and get admitted as a full cult member without further setbacks.

First cold front of the season today. I can feel it in my bones. Joy, that is.

I mowed my own lawn for the first time today.

Hills suck.

For the first of millions of times.

I hate my lawn, and I especially hate knowing full well how much a well kept lawn will contribute to the eventual resale of my lawn. That knowledge means I put a lot of time and energy into the upkeep of something I hate.

In unrelated news my three year old was tested and confirmed to have influenza today. They didn’t do a specific H1N1 test but the doctor said he was 90% sure that it was H1N1 since that’s the strain going around right now. So the next week ought to be fun.

My wife gave birth to our first baby last night! Baby Thomas is doing great and so is mum! He’s 9lb / 4.1kg and fair happy and feeding constantly :)

laura’s labour was tough. She was awake all night and I was from 2, contractions and pain etc. Then at 9 we were at the hospital and our midwife broke her membranes because while they had broken already they hadn’t ruptured down the front, but up the back.

With broken membranes Laura was in a hell of a lot of pain. They tried an epidural but it didn’t work! So, with syntocinon going because progress was slow, and Laura having very painful contractions every three minutes, they tried again! Second shot didn’t work either!

With Laura knackered, the baby big and labour not really going anywhere they put a spinal injection in which finally took away the pain and then c-sectioned her (which she had been crying out for since lunchtime, poor dear. Baby delivered at 5. Phew!

I got a paycheck today for the first time in 6 months (unemployment doesn’t count).

Human birth is so horrific. :) But congrats on getting through it!

Congratulations Calistas and Laura! That sounds so scary but I’m happy to hear that mom and baby are doing well.

Congrats :)

Congrats! Glad it all ended well :)

I’m fighting with my GF about ring shopping.

Thanks all! Sooner we can grow babies in
pods, the better! ;)

It’s amazing how much giving birth is like something dreamed up by Ridley Scott and H.R. Giger.

Also, congratulations!

Yesterday I found the announcement for my first (and probably only) book in the program of my publisher. It will come out in January. Funny feeling, but good.
