So what’d they sell you? Heh.
No. :P lol
(I figured a silly question deserved a silly answer. ;) They weren’t selling anything, no more so than anyone who promotes their employer or has a book out sells as a matter of course.
Scott Monty talked about the separation between the brand and the employee when the employee’s job is to represent a brand, and how to deal with the two as distinct entities. Bob Fish, CEO of Biggby Coffee, talked about his company as a case study for franchising and use of social media to promote the brand. Rohit Bhargava talked about how social media enabled the connections that led to his book deal and getting Guy Kawasaki to write the foreword for his first book.
It was all really cool and un-selly.
I just buried my cat and one of my closest friends, Uncle, who was hit by a car this morning.

Awwww. That’s terrible!
Did the driver at least stop?

I turned 24 two hours ago.
Thanks. Actually someone else found him lying on the sidewalk, body apparently undamaged, and was decent enough to call me. He and I reasoned that a car had probably hit the cat in exactly the right spot to kill him instantly without mangling, and that the driver felt bad enough to move the body but not to call. He was five and was still in great health, so far as I know, so I think that’s the most plausible explanation.
Aw, very sorry to hear that, barstein. Cherish your memories.
I’m sorry, barstein. I hope he didn’t suffer…
Went drinking in some cornfield, found a barn party, ended up sleeping in their house.
Oh the life of the college drunk.

Looks like I’ll be going to part of MANA’09, a big midwifery conference near Monterey, CA. The best part? It ties in with my dissertation research! Yay!

Condolences, Barstein. I’d be a wreck if that happened to one of our cats. :(
Okay… now I’m curious… how does midwifery tie in with a PhD in engineering? (You are in an engineering department, yes?) Biomedical in some way?
Thanks. It’s been difficult. I’ve lost more human friends and family to various things than anyone I know, but I think this one has hit me harder than anything in a long while because he was a most excellent companion, and was one of the younger among my crew.

Obviously, something like the Blonsky device, AKA apparatus for facilitating the birth of a child by centrifugal force.

That picture was fascinating in a disturbing sort of way, right up until I noticed the net between the legs. Then I couldn’t stop laughing.
