Today is my first wedding anniversary. A whole year, and she’s still putting up with me! We’re celebrating tonight by going out to dinner to the same place we had our rehearsal dinner, a fantastic Italian place here in town. Then we’re going to come home and play more Demon’s Souls (me) and Rune Factory 2 (her).
I love having a wife who supports my video game habit because it deflects attention from her own backlog.

Grats kid!
This weekend I saw a facebook money scam in action and actually work.
My wife loves her facebook and it has really gotten her back in touch with lots of old friends- then on Friday I looked over and asked her something and she mumbled something about something being wrong.
I said…Oh what’s wrong. Then came the response-- Well, apparently my friend Mary is in London and she got mugged and has no money and needs help but something seems wrong…
Naturally I ran over and screamed – DON’T!!!
Friend had her account hacked, and the hacker was chatting up with my wife and had asked her for money via Western Union. The exact same m.o. from numerous stories that were coming out about his seemingly new twist.
Sadly another friend had just come back from Western Union after sending the “friend” 200 dollars. The good news for him was that as soon as my wife alerted him, he ran back to WU and somehow managed to stop the transfer.
It seems facebook is a great way to pull this off though- with the built in chat, you have immediate access to people’s friends list and with chat, it is much more personal.
Thankfully my wife brought this up to me and it seems that much of ranting about what is on the internet or some if it at least has stuck- she said - when my friend (college educated) asked me to “borrow her some money” I knew something was wrong- THEN she told me what was going on.
Kinda scary since this is probably a really good way go get money out of people.
Best way around that is to not have any friend you’re close enough that you’d give $200 to, no matter where they are.
did a hydrostatic body fat test via a mobile truck (bodyfattest.com)

Oh, i’d hate to take one of those. Despite working more on weights recently, i’m probably that guy who is underweight and fat.
It’s pretty eye opening stuff. Good data to back up your impressions of health, etc. Totally worth the fifty bucks and 30 minutes, and super convenient.

So I found out my dad needs a quadruple bypass. Anyone have any experience with that kind of surgery and what to expect?

My dad’s had two(!). It’s not a pleasant process (obviously), but if it’s got to be done, then it’s got to be done. It’s been years, though; I don’t remember much about it.
Its one of the worst. My grandfather had one about a decade ago, and he survived, but is on medication still.

I ordered a Antec Sonata III case and a 640gb hard drive.
Yeah, my life is that interesting.
My closet colleague had a triple bypass and an artificial heart valve this spring, so I’ve had a front seat of sorts to his recovery (aided by the fact that he’s told history to everyone, sometimes more than once):
Providing there are no complications, there isn’t an awful lot of drama afterwards; it’s more a test of patience. Your dad will be very tired for a long, long time. Immediately afterwards, even a short walk will be immensely tiring. If he plans to get back to work, it’ll probably take six months or so before he can start again, and then only on a much reduced work scheme (like maybe 10-20 hours a week), and it can easily take a year before he’s back to full strength, if ever.
This long period of doing mostly nothing is quite the test of patience, and if your dad is the energetic, always-on-the-move type personality, it can be extremely frustrating (for him as well as the family) and can even lead to depression.
One of the things that really helped my colleague a lot mentally was taking to other patients. Like the day he went in for surgery he was really blue (well, scared, really), but in the hospital he met a guy who had the same operation a day or two before and was now up and about and doing fine. That perked him up a lot. Likewise, talking to other patients during recovery, who felt exactly like him, helped him a lot.
When I say he will tire easily, I don’t mean that he’ll get a bit dozy. I mean that he’ll get totally and utterly exhausted and it’ll hit im like a hammer, so family and friends will have to be very flexible in accommodating his needs (i.e. he may suddenly have to take a nap for an hour or two, so take that into consideration when going somewhere).
My girlfriend surprised me with a gliding session this weekend. It was pretty awesome and I even got to take the stick for a little while. Only problem is her birthday is on Saturday and now I have to somehow at least match that as a gift, suggestions are very welcome!
During the football games on Sunday, CBS was heavily promoting a 60 Minutes segment on wingsuits.

Haha, good luck with that! Glider lessons will be hard to top.
Birthday one-ups is something my wife and I worked out right at the start of our relationship. We don’t bother with birthdays or Christmas, generally speaking. I might get her a cake or something, but no big plans or surprises. Instead, we do stuff at any given moment so that it truly IS a surprise. You know? That way there’s no pressure to outdo last year or to match whatever the other person did or blah… :)
Well it wasn’t really a birthday surprise as my birthday is in March. We don’t usually do any sort of one ups manship but she got me this a week before her birthday so now I have to do something! I have some plans but not quite up to par with this.

I was part of a focus group to tell a publisher how much their website sucked.
They gave me a $50 gift card, which I promptly used to get Beatles: Rock Band.
She loves you! Yeah Yeah Yeah!

My dad had a triple 8 years ago, and he’s still going as strong as a horse, in fact he’s in better health than he was before the bypass. Once you get past the recovery stuff that krise covered in his post, he will start to feel great.
My dad also had a valve replaced a couple of weeks ago. He went with a cow valve over an artificial one, and he was out of the hospital in record time, and he says he feels so much better than he did before the surgery – his heart can now actually pump enough blood for him. :)

My dad had a quadruple quite a few years ago and it went fine. He’s practically unkillable though - 5 heart attacks, a quadruple heart bypass, 2 aneurisms of the aorta, and bowel cancer.
I think he’s related to Rasputin.

I was just promoted to Grand Master in Revolver division by USPSA (US Practical Shooting Association) due to match performance. I completely skipped Master class on the way, but I beat the national champion in Ohio a few weeks ago. Yay me! It took three years of effort, if I can win Nationals next year I’ll finally be able to quit this damnable sport.
