Saw my first ballet at our national opera this friday. Amazing building, amazing acustics - just one lady playing Chopin in that huge locale… but goddammit the dancing was boring. I wrote a complete outline for a fantasy novel in my head, while they were prancing about.
Dancers At A Gathering it was called.
After the break they did a second Jerome Robbins show called West Side Story Suite and while I knew I’d like the music, I feared the dancing would leave me cold again - but damn, that was good. Way to short, though. Wouldn’t have minded the entirity of West Side Story done that way.

Hey, congratulations that it worked out for you two!

Heh, that’s like my first experience with ballet, which was the Nutcracker at our city’s art center.

“What did you think?”

“It was good, except for all the damned dancing.”

I enjoyed the story bits, but at the end when they trotted out every single cast member for another go 'round, I tired quickly. Ballet could learn a lot from Glee, make sure the artsy bits are in service of the story, not the other way around.

Emphasis mine.

My grandfather passed away a few hours ago. A fighter to the last, he hung in there over 24 hours longer than the doctors expected. I was there when he died, holding his hand and stroking his hair which was an oddly serene experience. I’m sad but mostly relieved as he have been very ill for some time now. He deserved to rest.

I know what you mean, man. Glad you could be there.

Hell, that sounds awesome. If I thought that work would give me a month off I’d do it in a heartbeat.

Just completely drop off the face of the planet for a month and concentrate all your energy on basic survival.

Good luck, I hope they get back to you.

[LEFT]As a child, I was given a reproduction of an edition of Grimm’s fairy tales with these fantastic illustrations that I have loved ever since. I misplaced the book and have been distraught not only over the loss of the book, but the fact that I had no idea who the illustrator was. I finally figured it out today - it’s Kay Nielsen, an early 20th century Danish illustrator. They’re really stunning. I am so happy to know who it is, so I can find a replacement for the book I lost.

That art style looks a lot like Chinese Wax Painting. My SO’s grandfather did that sort of thing…

Just got notified that my visa to visit Brazil has been approved. I’m going down next week for the Pan-American Traditional Karate Tournament. Yay!

I have a job interview in two hours.

Local newspaper/Website editor. :(

Any port in a storm…

Quadruple bypass surgery was the 30th, and my Dad returned home yesterday. Seems to be doing ok, though he’s a little loopy from the pain meds.

Believe me Acid, it’s better than two years of looking and not even being able to find that much.

The market for writing/editing in Phoenix has a few Craigslist jobs on spec, for a penny or less a word, and one New Times job, but that requires being bilingual.

Best of luck with it, I know I’d love to work for North Central News or some such myself right now!

I scheduled a voice lesson for next Tuesday.

Since I’ve hung up the phone, I’ve had coughing fits and a scratchy throat. God dammit.

I know, Zeke. I’ll be grateful if I get the job, believe me.

I think the interview went well, and she was definitely impressed with my resume and my experience. I’ll find out ‘sometime next week’ if I make round 2…

I was in Vegas this week and had the opportunity to eat at Joel Robuchon’s restaurant. I’m spoiled for all other food forever.

I’m seriously laughing out loud at this. Isn’t that just how it is?

Singing or speaking lesson?

Singing.

I did this to my truck today.

So awesomely redneck. I was going to use the old school Punisher logo but I kinda like the newer looking one better. The old one was a bit square for my tastes.

Yes I put it on both sides.
