I’ve been sick with the flu for 2 days. Hooray!

I’m getting a new kitchen in 2 weeks.

The swine variety?
Who knows? Maybe. Still fighting it but I’m back at work at least.
Heh, trying to bring Epic down from the inside then?
It’s Epic. Two sickdays a year is all you get - they probably have him working in a special quarantine bubble-cubicle.

Sick policy is very generous, actually! As long as you don’t abuse it, you can take as much as you need. If you start abusing it, HR will want to have a chat of course…

I’m nowhere near the source of the problem, believe me. I’m one of the last to get sick around here, actually.
I’ve railed against a fixed number of allotted sick days many times, they just don’t make sense. This sort of policy is how it should be everywhere. My company offers a fixed number and honestly it’s not enough, especially this year where there was flu outbreak back in February/March and now again, 5 days doesn’t cover two bouts of the flu in a year. I’m already 2 days over (which is actually unusual for me) but so far nothing has happened and I imagine the company will totally let it slide.
My apologies then - that’s downright European of them (commies!).
Over here our ministry of health advices treating it like the normal flu unless you’re in a risk group and staying home at least one day without fever before going to work.
The epidemic just hit our shores. My oldest daughter had all the signs yesterday and is still sick today, but the fever is almost gone, so we don’t worry.
When I was working at the furniture store, we had “flex days” which were either sick days or vacation days, so you had to draw from the same pool for either one. And guess how many I got in a year?
3!
God, I do not miss that job.
What I don’t get is why HR managers aren’t fired outright for letting people with the flu in the door. Having one employee away from work may be expensive, but it’s small potatotes compared to having a whole fucking department shut down for a week.
Which is exactly why the notion of fixed number of days is stupid. They’re a benefit at that point, extra paid time off and people are stupid if they don’t use them by the end of the year and employees feel (rightly so) entitled to them. You end up with people calling in sick who aren’t just to use them before the end of the year. On the flip side you have people coming to work sick, infecting others because they either don’t want to use them or they’re out and don’t want to lose pay.
The only reason for them to be limited is to try and reduce people abusing sick time, but really people taking days off when they don’t need to because they have them probably ends up in more unnecessary time off than if they were entirely up to the discretion of the employees with tracking and a discussion should someone end up taking an inordinate number.

Yeah, it’s really not hard to simply record when people are sick in a spreadsheet or database or whatever and run queries every quarter to see if anyone needs a talking to. Done.

Wow, we get 6 weeks sick leave over 3 years as part of the employment act.
Workers may take the number of days they would normally work in a 6-week period for sick leave on full pay in a 3-year period.
However, during the first 6 months of employment, workers are only entitled to 1 day of paid sick leave for every 26 days worked.

I’m contemplating moving back to Columbus, Ohio, where I’m from. Toward that end, I asked a friend of mine to look for a sweet place for me to live. And man did he come through. Apparently the penthouse of The LeVeque Tower, which is the second tallest building in Columbus, and takes up the two top stories, is for rent for a not insane price per month. Not cheap, but not totally out there. It’s pretty much the coolest place to live in Columbus, maybe Ohio. I’m thinking of leasing it for a year, or seeing how much they want for it if I can pick it up for a not insane price.
Urge to live on top of skyscraper and become Bruce Wayne rising . . . rising.
In this picture I’d be the octaganal part with the two story windows on top that’s lit up. I can just imagine the cool parties I could have up there.

It took me a moment to see Bruce Wayne and not Bruce Willis. I kept picturing you swinging around on fire hoses outside the building trying to crash through plate glass windows.

If he moves there, you know that will happen.
That has gotta be a freaking sweet place to live. If you live there, the housewarming party should be a QT3 meetup.

I worked for the company that managed LeVeque when I was in my mid-20’s and I had the opportunity to live in the penthouse. If I could have found a roommate to split the bill I would have. To this day I regret not taking the offer, its an awesome place for a single guy.
