That was you, was it? Right. It’s not too late for that thread fight, you know.

Drove up to Legoland with my son today, where we have a membership, to get the (massive) discount on his birthday present (and, of course, to see Legoland in the rain).
We drove home with this, which we then proceeded to spend the rest of the afternoon building.
We haven’t finished. We’ve got the truck head and the two cars completed, but we still have yet to build the trailer.
Note that the age range for this 1300-piece monster is 9-12. My son turns 5 tomorrow. I am proud of him… he’s got a gift.

I’m now in the sit back and enjoy phase of work.
I got another mail the other day, the first was that all contract workers would have to take a 6% pay cut from 1st of Jan, this one was to let us know how well the company had done considering the current financial climate and that, as a result, all contract staff were not expected to work from christmas eve to 2nd Jan without management sign off as a reward for the work we’d done for the company.
And for the 5th year running we (contract staff) weren’t invited to Christmas party.
I know compared to others here that it could be much, much worse but this is a NASDAQ listed company still making profits not to be sniffed at. Annoyingly my boss has signed off for me to work to 31st December when my contract ends.
If you aren’t French, never work for a french company. I’ve worked for two french companies now, never, ever again.
We took Rose to get her picture taken with Santa.

Please tell me you didn’t ask Santa to make that face for the picture!
She’s adorable, all of my childhood Santa pics have me trying just as hard to escape.

That’s the best kid-with-Santa picture I’ve seen, and I’ve seen many.
Flash Rave at 10 pm tonight in our library. They, regrettably, agreed to allow us to host it there. We may have only told them that about 500-1000 people are coming.
We’re looking at a solid 2-3 thousand. This is gonna be sick.

I don’t get the whole Santa phenomenon. It’s made for some nice stories, but actually telling your kids that Santa, The Easter Bunny, or the Tooth Fairy really exists? I think it’s better just to exchange gifts than mess with your kids’ head for 6-10 years.
That is a great picture though and I am just armchair quarterbacking in that regard. There’s probably a lot of awkward social situations that could arise from doing the above.

What do you mean, Santa is real!

*No children were harmed in the making of this photo
I look at it this way, Santa/Easter Bunny/Tooth Fairy are the first major examples of kids using critical thinking. It’s a fun and charming lie while it lasts, and it should be celebrated when they figure it out as a way to encourage them to continue to question their assumptions.

How dreary would be the world if there were no Santa Claus! It would be as dreary as if there were no Virginias. There would be no childlike faith then, no poetry, no romance to make tolerable this existence. We should have no enjoyment, except in sense and sight. The eternal light with which childhood fills the world would be extinguished.

You are now obligated to go watch A Year Without a Santa Claus. He’ll know if you don’t.
Rose clearly knows that this Santa is an IMPOSTER, I tell you. Great picture!

Hrmm, I guess that makes sense. I don’t even remember when I figured it out (or not). More than likely it was some kid smarter than me telling me at school.
That’d make a pretty good random question of the week for Tom. When and how did you learn there was no Santa Clause?
I figured it out when I found a bill of sale for one of Santa’s gifts, with my mother’s signature on it. I must have been 8 or 9, so it was probably about time. Alas, I did not leverage extra gifts out of it, for keeping the information from my younger siblings.
I didn’t believe it so much that the only way to convince me was that my mom bought herself presents and gave them to herself from santa.
Yeah. It didn’t make sense. We didn’t have a chimney.
That’s the greatest Santa picture of all time.

My brother has a fantastic photo of my niece melting down in Santa’s lap, but it doesn’t even compare to this one. Well done!

We always told our son that Santa Claus was the spirit of giving. And the spirit of giving does exist, and we see it most obviously at Xmas. No lies told. Awesome pic, you should post it in the pictures thread too!
