oh 20 or so

My roommate was using my old Sony 17" CRT until earlier this year. When I was at the used PC place last week, they were selling them (well, trying to anyway) for $15.

We used to have to take orders on a tiny 15 inch CRT monitor at a pizza company I worked for about a year ago. I visited recently and the monitors were still there. I can’t believe some people still use that old technology.

It all depends on what you are using it for. If it’s an old DOS based order capture system a 15"-17" CRT is fine. If it is being used to code using a semi-modern IDE then not so much.

When most of the engineers have upgraded to 24" screens (dual if they really want), leaving stacks of cast-off 17" LCDs, there’s no reason not to make sure that even the not-so-tech inclined people at work don’t have 2 17" LCDs.

Of course, I do claim credit for being the first person to start the trend by putting 2 17" LCDs on my own desk, all those many years ago. Now I just need to convince all the remaining single-monitor users that they’re making life hard on themselves.

It may not be obvious, but I believe I come across rather… strongly… at work.

The 2nd-to-last CRT in the building was funny. It had a built-in USB hub. On a CRT… with all the ports in the back next to the power cord.

Since this is QT3 someone must know. Do some disciplines out there still use huge CRT’s to work on because they need the finer pixel calibration, colour reproduction and fidelity that they offer (I’ve phrased that badly but hopefully someone gets it.)

Do want. :)

I started using dual lcds before any of the graphic artists… and I’m just a mere editor.

Yeah, dual screens are the sort of thing that once you use them you never want to go back. It’s just WAY too convenient.

Hell, I remember moving up to a real CRT from a 12-inch TV set.

I just found out that I’ve been accepted to an exchange year at York University in Toronto. Hooray.

Next year’s Executive Board for the Student Association at Binghamton University, which is considered one of the country’s most powerful Student Governments, were decided on today, and in every position one of my friend’s sit. Girlfriend sits at the Vice President, a good friend is president, best friends at Vice President of Finance and Vice President of Academic Affairs. Vice President of Multi Cultural Affairs is also a really good friend. All of them have promised me half assed jobs and stipends as well as appointing me to Student Association Treasurer, which has one job and that’s heading up the Financial Council that decides how Discretionary money is designated. Meanwhile I didn’t have to run any sort of real campaign outside of helping my gf’s with experience in elections and doing some campaigning on voting day, and I’m guaranteed a voice in every decision that goes on on Binghamton’s campus, as well as controlling how a large portion of it’s money is spent. All without real effort.

Baller.

I trust you’ll be pushing to improve the mediocre podiums Binghamton’s known for.

Just wait till his girlfriend dumps him.

Cracking stuff. I hope you get to put any nepotism to good use! Oh, and that they’re not getting you to draft any proposals or write any speeches. Mercy me.

Demon G Sides: Voted most likely to be a Scapegoat when the inevitable student government corruption scandal erupts.

Our podiums do indeed suck. I’ll funnel money into podiums for everyone!

I don’t write speeches. I stand in the background and look intimidating.

Probably.

Ah Binghamton… I’ve never encountered a more f-ed up and corrupt executive group.

My introduction, freshman year, old ATMs (no charge for students) removed. New M&T ATMs put in - charges students for withdraws. University President happens to be M&T board member. Coincidence?

I alternate between telling the University I’ll donate some $$$ when they go back to Division III sports, or when they bring the Pub back (“we’ll have the Pub back when the new Union opens - we promise!”).

Fun fact - in the 90’s, the SA president and a few others got caught embezzling SA money. It was either that year or the year after that most of the board got elected by literally stuffing the ballots - stealing ballot boxes and “fixing” the votes.

A sterling career in party politics no doubt awaits.

Yep! That sounds about right. They’ve always been M&T ATM’s while I’ve been here, and I don’t use them as a bank so it doesn’t effect me. There’s a free ATM downtown for when we go drinking, so that’s not really a big deal.

Division I sports is where we’re going to sit, so sorry. That’s LoLo DeFloFlo’s legacy, and she’s not gonna give it up that easily, even though she’s retiring this year.

And SA elections have usually been corrupt in one way or another. This year there was no corruption, just lots of mud slinging between some candidates. No grievances for any elected positions either, which is impressive, only against the Student Activity fee increase.
