That is excellent news, Matt! Here’s to your father’s full recovery.

And the messages to him are a great thing to do. Cheers for that. :)

They think it’s Guillian-Barre, just a type they’ve never seen. One for the medical journals, they said.

Glad your Dad is doing better.

Matt, I didn’t want to comment earlier (although now I know that I should have) because it’s painful. The story of his steps back toward recovery made my day. Fingers crossed even on the other side of the world.

I wish all the best for you, your father, and your whole family, Matt.

Fingers crossed and best wishes for a prompt and complete recovery
the daily messages sound like a great idea
How old is he?

Meant to post this in here, but somehow wound up in the wrong placae…

That’s great news, Matt. If the hospital has wireless Internet access, you should see if someone could get a laptop and a webcam in there so you could Skype with your father once in a while. Even if he can’t answer back, it’s still a means of connecting.

Thanks for all the positive thoughts, guys.

Dad is 55 years old, and while he’s in fantastic shape for someone his age, he’s also had a few heart attacks, a staph infection, a lifetime of back problems, high blood pressure, and he just had rotater cuff surgery.

I’ll check regarding the Skype stuff – while he’s in ICU that’s probably not doable, but I’m not sure. I’ll give them a call tomorrow.

I’m tiling my entire bathroom, from the floor to mid wall. Ughh, I’m too worn out for this shit. But it looks good. Last home improvement project EVER.

Anyone that is being driven mad by children’s shows or music needs to get the They Might Be Giants kids dvd/cds. They saved the life of my children because they’re good enough for all three of us to sing along.

We have all the They Might Be Giants dvd/cd sets, we just don’t have the TV set up for DVD right now because we’re still unpacking from the move. Still, they are definitely excellent and the cds are on permanent rotation in the car.

i got my kid into Rush

Will he be touring with them this summer?

I guess groupies are starting really young these days.

briefly fantasizes of his son playing along with Geddy, Alex and Neil

ahhh…

He’s gonna miss the movie, too.

It’s cool, though. All the new music I discovered through Brütal Legend, I’ve been playing for him over Skype when we video-chat.

Very cool. :)

But yeah. He’d rather listen to prog metal (and Marc Gunn) than kiddie music. Which works just fine for me! :)

You’re awesome, Rimbo.

HE is awesome. I am still lame old Rimbo, discovering things about rock that I should’ve learned back in the 80’s.

Case in point, this past weekend, I discovered how to make my bass amp distort by cranking the preamp dial and turning back the post dial. I had never done this before. We’ve had this amplifier since 1984. (It was my brother’s originally, it became mine when we both went to college.) I call my bro up to brag and he says, “Dude, I figured that out the first week.”

Worse: Wanna know when I first listened to Iron Maiden? January of last year. I’m pushing 40 years old and I’d never really listened to 'em. Same with Judas Priest (although thanks to their Top 40 successes, I’d at least heard their singles before).

I got into all these bands at all the wrong times. I became a Van Halen fan during the Sammy Hagar years. I got into Anthrax during the John Bush years. (Although did Belladonna ever write a song as good as “Poison My Eyes?” I remember playing it for a friend of mine back in college and saying, “I didn’t know Anthrax was this good.” “They aren’t,” he replied.) I’m catching the originals only because they’re older, sober, and having Old Fart Reunion Tours now that their fan base has reached middle age and has lots of Disposable Mid-Life Crisis Reliving The Past Income.

No, I’m pretty pathetic, and this is arguably my very own mid-life crisis. But my son will know of the power and glory of metal!

Wait until that glorious day you discover New Order really does play in tune.

I got diagnosed with ADD and I am 23. Started a 3 month Ritalin plan, hoping it will change my life. I took some for 45 days earlier this year and it was incredible. I felt “normal” for the first time.

I can’t help but think how my life could have been different if it was diagnosed earlier… All the classes I flunked in college and university… All the papers I never gave in or gave in late…

If you have the time, read the wiki on A.D.H.D. If you recognize yourself in these symptoms there may be hope for you yet.

I understand your good intentions, but inviting people to self diagnose via wiki is not a good idea. It’s just not.

As a matter of fact the only way that could have been worse is if you’d linked to a wiki page for Aspergers.
