After mocking me somewhat for my purchase of Rock Band 2, my wife is now addicted to the guitar and actually asks me to play the game with her. Victory is mine!

I hope to accomplish the same thing, except that I plan to lure her in with singing.

Totally inappropriate for this thread but Arsenal 1 - 3 Manchester United. Man is that interesting to me!

Had my last class of the year today. A bunch of my students came up after and personally thanked me and told me I was a great teacher.

<sniff>

You do know that all of them, as soon as hitting the door out of there, were all like “Man fucking thank god that is over.” regardless of how awesome a teacher you are? We are terrible people Dean, us students. Never trust us.

I don’t. Of course I’m now sitting in my office at 7pm waiting for a frikkin’ project to come in. Little pricks think I don’t have a life. I wanna go home.

But there for a couple of minutes I had my Mr. Holland moment…

Have you had your final exam, or posted final grades yet?

… last minute Buttkissery.

I yesterday told a professor that he was “the best fucking thing since sliced fucking bread!

I probably shouldn’t have shouted it during the exam, but totally worth it.

I actually complemented a professor once after our final. It was through email, but she said she was surprised since she usually gets email complaining about the exam. Another professor I told him I like him because he was a character, which he took the wrong way. It was meant as a compliment. Heh. Other than that, while I talked a lot with many of my professors, that was the extent of compliments and such I gave. One professor was a total lunatic. One day I’d turn in a paper and I’d get an A. The next time I’d turn in a paper I’d get a D or an F. I had no clue why. It’s really frustrating to be in a class where I can’t be general predictive about my grades (within a grade at least).

Other than that, I had a lot of great professors. Either I’m lucky or I just have a high tolerance for bad ones.

My computer crashed! Yay! That’s interesting!

Came home and it’s in a cycle of reboot, blue screen, reboot, blue screen… couldn’t repair, unrecoverable sectors or something like that. Guess it’s time for the ol’ new-drive-and-grab-files bit. Most of my stuff’s on the second drive, which I -think- was unaffected. Hope so, at least.

Will we be seeing you over in H&T shortly? Sounds like it:)

You’re all cynical nastypeople.

No, I haven’t posted grades yet, but two of the kids who were talking to me were seniors who were taking the class as filler since they’d already fulfilled their requirements to graduate.

Is it so hard to believe that I might actually be a good teacher?

<sniff of a different kind>

No doubt that you’re a good professor, just us students are terrible terrible terrible people that will do anything to pass a class, filler or not.

Yeah, just started a new thread there. I love technology so much!

I paid off my first car last week. Every dime spent to pay off said car was earned by freelance writing. I’m considering this a career milestone since my less-than-supportive parents told me, at one point, that I’d never be able to do it.

Don’t do it! Don’t fall into the I-want-my-parents-to-be-proud trap! Parents can be like customers: Nothing you do is ever enough.

If you do decide to spite your parents, make sure to tell them that they were wrong about the Republican party, too!

We got over the political divide when I was in college, mostly, but they did spend something like 90 minutes before the elections trying to convince me that a vote for Obama was a vote to destroy America.

Also the car-paying-off has happened already, so I have no idea what you guys are trying to tell me not to do!

Haha, just poking some fun. I had a final today, and the class actually applauded when the Prof came in with the exams. It was almost surreal. He then proceeded to kick 350 people out of the room so he and the TAs could lay out the exams…

Today sucked.
