I may have to fire this back up again. There is a lot of content I already haven’t seen and I always have a great time with it. I tend to like using the external mapping tool to find the good stuff right away, though!

Can’t wait to try this out again. But i do have plans for this weekend… Guess i’ll have to wait untill my social activities are over…

I haven’t played this since it was brand new, and probably haven’t spent more than a handful of hours with it ever. New content might make it worth revisiting, for sure!

Is the mobile version the same as the pc or switch version? The Switch tax is insane on this one which is why I don’t have it for the switch and it’s not something I’d play much sitting at a desk. But mobile is the way to go for me if they’re the same game.

Good question – I have the mobile version, but have never compared it to the PC version.

Hmm. It appears it’s a port that runs a bit behind in terms of updates. But otherwise seems to be the same game. Not sure how far the updates on mobile trail behind PC but so long as it gets the same updates eventually I’m cool with that.

Having a blast with the new update. You have to start over, but you don’t have to mine endlessly for ore or other stuff. For ore, just mine 100 of them and research it. Then you can have unlimited that kind of ore. Same goes for money!

I was playing last night starting from 11 pm and just wanted to play hour and a half or so. When i looked up it was already 2 am! Needed to go to bed fast… now still sleepy from sleep deprivation…

I just started playing this yesterday too. The last time I played it was shortly after its initial release. I started a normal type of game on a small world.

How do you research ore or other things?

You can only research items if you have started a Journey character. This can only choose this during the create character/avatar phase.

gah. As someone who only played it after the initial release, do you recommend that I play a normal game or a journey one? And journey characters can only play on journey worlds, right?

The character need to have Journey enabled to play a Journey World. In a Journey world you can adjust the difficulty however you like it.
I do recommend you play with a Journey character. All my old characters and world are not accessable anymore after the 1.4 update.

For all you Terraria superfans, now you can kickstart some Terraria minis!

Terraria just released a huge free update. I don’t see any new bosses or biomes (*), but there are tons of QoL updates, new items and overall improvements listed. There’s an interesting mode where you start from underground and have to work your way up to the surface.

edit: (*) seems like there are some secrets not listed in the patch notes. pretty cool.

I bought Terraria on a whim for $5 at least 11 years ago. It’s got my second-highest playtime on Steam, behind Factorio. It’s one of those games that just… works. Superbly.

It blows my mind that the game is still getting updates all these years later.

I bought it 11 years ago and Steam days I have 2.4 hours. I’m not sure I ever really played it and the time may be just idle time. I really should try it, 10 friends liked it enough to have over 100 hours and 2 dozen have at least 20.

Maybe you are really bad at Terraria? :)

I could be, but I may never know! :-)

Terraria is one of my all time favorite games. You will probably love it if you like to dig/explore/build/progress/any of the above.

One of the coolest things for me is that you can create your own terrariums with all the different biomes from the game.

Any suggestions for a guide that holds your hand a bit but doesnt spoil everything? I tend to get to the point where I have some upgraded gear, I’ve delved the caves a reasonable distance from home base, I’ve got several NPCs chilling at the house, and I’m not sure what to do next. Crafting seems like a fiddly juggling act between all the chests I have storing stuff, and getting from point a to b feels like a chore instead of making cool discoveries. Inevitably, I burn out until I pick it up again months or years later. I am pretty sure I am playing it wrong.

Ive found guides that help you through the first hour or two of play, but not what to do once youve got the basics up and running.

Don’t know of one off hand. It’s kind of hard to do without getting spoily. But it’s possible to point you to biome order, at least, which might suffice (without saying what exactly to do when you get there)? Still, some things may stump you to the point where it’s better to just ask.
