HAHAHA wow.
Well, I guess not everyone is a precious snowflake who can achieve anything they want.
GA-DOOSH!
I thought that was more GAH-DOOSH! But, either way, awesome.
Well, it’s not exactly as bad as it sounds:
The academy boasts of its small class sizes and specializes in teaching students struggling with “learning differences,” such as short attention spans or dyslexia.
My first thought was that they were whooping up on a bunch of Down’s kids. Still pretty bad, though.
H.
yeah if the spread gets above 40, you’d think that they’d lighten up a little.
At least the losers took it in stride, and are actually okay with the loss. They got a VIP invite to a basketball game to watch from the skyboxes, which is awesome.
That’s rewarding winning.
Well, if it’s just a bunch of dyslexics, it’s not so bad. They probably think they only lost 0 to 001.
I bet some of the Bowl Championship Series athletic departments are on the phone with this guy right now. He really knows how to run up a score!
Nice to see Mark Cuban inviting them to watch a game, even if it does turn into a bit of a publicity stunt for him.
Honestly, I can’t say I agree with the officials here. Once you agree to a game, there is no reason to “go easy” on them. That’s not fun for either side. Competition is about doing your best to win, not patronizing your opponent. The only behavior that could possibly be construed as unsportsman-like in the article was the crowd “cheering wildly” as the winning team got closer to 100 points. And personally, I don’t consider cheering to be offensive in any way.
I know a guy who played high school football in Smiths Falls, Ontario, which is sort of like our rural Pennsylvania - surrounded by built-up areas but very remote-feeling at the same time. Anyway their team were called the Red Men, and one time they completely destroyed a team of actual First Nations kids from the high school on the nearby Reserve, like 80 to nothing. I think that’s worse.
Dude, its 100-0 with an apparently pretty good team versus a bunch of kids who have education problems. Its not being easy, its called not being an asshole.
I agree completetly. While gloating over a win like that would be in poor taste, there is nothing wrong with the win itself.
Agreed. And Covenant’s coaches were being assholes.
Covenant’s website issues a statement.

The coach must really be a great guy. When I coached girls and boys soccer, we could keep the score down when we were clearly better than the opponents, we would make them pass five teams in the box before shooting, only shoot with the left foot, play defenders at forward and forwards at defender, it can be done without humiliating your opponents. It is called sportsmanship.
Oh, and Covenant is trying to forfeit the game.
When asked for a comment, Covenant High School coach John Kreese had the following response, “Strike first, strike hard, no mercy!”
This is bullshit, there was no competition here. The game ceased to be a test of their skill.
As they pushed the spread beyond 40 or 50 to 0 and up to 100-0, the score became their gloating. There’s nothing wrong with the win, but the spread they chose to win it at is in bad taste.
Haha. They are a Christian school too. My god, what a bunch of clueless people. And forfeiting the game is equally as dumb and patronizing. They should just apologize and potentially replace the coach.
I hope they fire the coach. No excuse for that.
Apologize? Come on. There is winning, and then there is gloating. Is wasn’t some charity fundraiser, was it? It was a competition. This team won by a ton, but it doesn’t sound like they were gloating after the game. Maybe there is more to the story, who knows.
