Tharsis: turn-based spaceship survival with dice rolling!

Absolutely this!

Giggle…

boy, what a finale… situation above. 1 week to Mars. I need to get someone to the Flight Control, but all Crew will lose 1 health at the end of the round if I don’t fix the medic bay. I cannot move the Mechanic to the medic bay, he only has 1 HP left, the Specialist could go but does not have enough dice… arrgh, everybody is stuck.

What I noticed after a while is that I have a research project “movement without injury”… I need to place 2 more dice to complete it… I send the Mechanic. He barely can squeeze 2 dice in the right slots. Done. He had to sacrifice himself, to do it, I was able to send the specialist and the captain to FC. Done. Ready to go down to Mars…

This mission looked so bad, lost my doctor in week 3… but we did it!

edit: the doctor was usefull after alll

Nice!

Finally won! (on easy). Everything just went right, I was never in any serious danger – got all four crew to Mars with plenty of health and food to spare (never resorted to cannibalism).

On to hard difficulty I guess…

what easy dificulty do you mean??
After beating the game once, now I do have another tough decission: Do I take the pilot with me or not. Which character do I switch for the pilot. I guess the specialist appears to be the weakest.

Well, ok, I guess it is called “Normal”, not “Easy”.

The Pilot doesn’t seem that useful? I’ve unlocked the Technician, which I’ve been using in place of the Specialist.

The specialist is the one with the +1 reroll right? She’s the one I would probably swap out, since most of the time the rolls have enough inherent danger associated with them that I don’t particularly want to be rerolling much.

Yeah. The Doctor and the Captain abilities I use all the time (or try to, when I don’t roll terrible). The Mechanic, sometimes. The Specialist can be good, I guess, if you’re desperately trying to roll a pair to fix the ship so you don’t die, and you need one more try… but usually you fail on that last roll anyway, so… yeah.

I have been having pretty good luck swapping the specialist for the technician. You cannot under value Assists…

shame you can’t actually decide how to use assists. I think that could make for some interesting decision points.

Haven’t had a chance to play yet, but last night I bought this based on Tom’s podcast … because the dev said the old show Space: 1999 was an influence. I watched that as a kid, when 1999 was the future.

Also, animated dice.

Lol, I used to, unbeknownst to my parents, get out of bed in the middle of the night to watch it.

I have a love hate relationship with Space: 1999. It may have my favorite set and prop and costume design of any scifi property, but, dear God, the plots were beyond nonsensical.

Yeah, I’m right there with you. I loved the series while it was on, but returned to rewatch it years later and I was pretty sad to find it so lacking. Still, it was a fun ride while it lasted.

I liked the series too, but I hardly remember anything about the plots. I do remember enjoying that they pronounced schedule in the British way. :)

my survival rate is now 46% … but I still have not managed to get the doctor to mars. Will try again. I like it that there is a small icon on the character select screen, who succeeded and who died how often. It looks like the mechanic was most successful.
Also my highscore is 1300+ … which is more a low score comparing to my global position in the leaderboard.

I got 1702! On Normal. Which puts me at #1952 on the global leader board. The global high score is 2005, so good luck with that.

How in the world do you get anywhere near 50% survival?!? Please, share with us your secrets newbrof…

This game hates me, and the feeling is somewhat mutual.
