Aside from the obviousness of Guapo’s trolling technique, which was still hilarious to watch people respond to, there’s something to learn from him. Being casual about women is not the same as being flippant about women. Self confidence with sarcastic comments to a woman is not really a PUA technique, even though it falls under the PUA wing, because that wing is apparently pretty fucking huge and now certain attitudes are just getting lumped in with it. I thought it was obvious that this is what delirium and Trunk were trying to say, but everyone just froths at the mouth as soon as someone says something where they can just be generalized immediately by everyone else.

Since delirium apparently doesn’t like to get made fun of, and I’m currently in the mood of not particularly giving a fuck at taking flak, some of the things said by PUA within the scope of a “game” are sound advice. Perhaps Chris Rock is more appropriate, however? “You’re not meeting that person, you’re meeting their representative.” The sooner you say something to crack through that defensive shell so many people like to put on when approached by someone interesting, the sooner you can start to see actual personality and decide if your interest should keep going. There’s nothing wrong with being pragmatic about sex, love, marriage, mating, whichever connection floats your boat. If “don’t be a manipulative asshole” is a line you draw, great. I draw the line there as well.

And there isn’t always a shell to be cracked, for sure. And “cracked” seems to imply something aggressive here, where genuine small talk can work just as well as playful sniping. It really depends what kind of personality you’re dealing with and what you’re looking for out of your relationship. Just don’t confuse the other person about what is going on, and you’re not an asshole.
