She’s still around. Was asking for laptop advice the other day.

As someone who hasn’t been around that long, who was the other half of that couple?

In 2000, sometime in November.

Alright so here begins a weeklong experiment. Every day I’m going to send off a message to a girl on match.com; we’ll see what it results in. Today’s was to a girl who’s an East coast transplant like myself; we’ll see what comes of it. Don’t have one picked out for tomorrow yet.
Additionally: Some girl messaged me last night, but today her profile appears to have been disappeared. I assume this was a spambot which is a pity; because the picture the bot had was good looking. :(
If responses are anywhere near to what I found, you’ll be about three short of getting any reply (1 in 10 is what seemed the average to me). But it may work differently for men > women than men > men. I’ve also never tried match.com, so can’t say for that site, either.
Please, Victoria couldn’t possibly have been better looking than Roger.
Either way, we kept the wong half.

Victoria was entertaining in her bizarre medical relations disasters. However, I found it annoying how she felt the need to constantly warn my of the dangers of AIDS while we were trading resources in Ikarium.

My response rate is a lot better than 10%. I would guess somewhere between 25 and 50%. However, I did have a girl I was planning to ask out delete her profile while I was waiting to get over a cold. I guess I should’ve carped the diem. It’s someone a friend of mine knows, though (Victoria is a small town in a lot of ways), so all hope is not lost.

You can get AIDS from Ikarium? Talk about a showstopping bug…
The longer this thread gets, the more depressing it becomes for me. :P

Had an 8-hour first date with a guy from OKC. Went pretty well, and I don’t know if it will go anywhere due to distance, but I feel good about myself, so that’s a definate plus right now…

Eight-hours? Holy shit, I guess it went well!

Two emails sent, no responses yet, as predicted. Otoh, my cyber stalking shows me that neither have signed into the service, so there’s that. :) I’m working on picking target #3 for today.
I’m sure these complaints have been made already in this thread (probably by me) but I’ll reiterate them.
- Christ I hate the generic profile. “I like to have fun with my friends.” YOU DON’T SAY THATS SO FUCKING UNUSUAL
- I hate it when every picture is a group picture. I’ve never met you before, I’m not going to be able to pick you out of a group of five people.
- Running into profiles of people you know is hilarious and possibly awkward. “Wow, you are so not like that.”

Worse than just a group picture is when you’re not sure which one it is, and then you figure it out and it’s the less hot one.
I’m really getting tired of reading profiles where they say they love their job and they live life to the fullest. I just plain don’t fucking believe it. I suppose for a few of them it might be true, but the majority have to be lying. Especially when they work in some bureaucratic government job. If you really think you’re living your life to the fullest, you have a pretty poor imagination.
jeff reminded me of an issue with profiles – when was the last time the person logged in? Most sites track that and a few will suggest matches to people who haven’t logged in for a year or longer (OKC does this for me regularly), so always check before sending off a message. Your well-worded enticement may go off into the ether never to be read.
