All you married people need to keep your stagnant married lives out of this thread. This is all about the thrill of dating strange people and the trials and tribulations associated with the hunt for a long term relationship.
Unless you are scouring internet dating sites and meeting up while you’re married, that’s hot.

Of course it’s relevant, even if we weren’t scouring internet dating sites for some girl to tie me up and make love to my wife while teasing and tickling … ehrm. cough
It’s relevant, because writing about “here’s what works” is a good way to help those who are dating and, of course, NOT having things work, to find ways to make things work. And my advice is: Don’t limit yourself to someone who agrees with your politics; it’s petty, lame and self-limiting. Especially given that most people’s devout, deep political and religious beliefs are defined almost entirely by where they are born, and not by any actual thinking that they did. Even if you DO think about it and change your beliefs based on how you were raised substantially, even those are done within the context of the belief structure you were effectively born into. (And if you’re honest with yourself, in the deep down parts of you that you pretend aren’t really there, you KNOW that this is true.)

EVERYBODY thinks like you do: That people who agree with each other can be happy. In fact, most people go as far as to say that you MUST agree with each other to be happy.
My point is that it’s entirely unnecessary – and boring as fuck.
What’s with the attitude? It’s boring as fuck … TO YOU. I understand that some couples consider fighting and bickering to be a turn on. We aren’t one of those couples so that makes your universal (or even 95% rule), bullshit.
And my advice is: Don’t limit yourself to someone who agrees with your politics
And you know, I’ll agree with this. Don’t limit your options. Ever. However, realize that politics and religion and money are the major areas of fights and divorce for couples - having some alignment in those areas wouldn’t be the worst idea.

Sorry about the attitude. I woke up on the wrong side of the bed today.
Actually, the top 5 reasons for divorce are:
-
Infidelity
-
Communication breakdown – if you’re not able to talk without arguing. Which has NOTHING to do with politics and religion and everything to do with not being an asshole about your point of view, even if it’s something as simple as how you load the dishwasher.
-
Abuse
-
Financial problems
and:
- BOREDOM

Infidelity is the top reason for fights and divorce? Do you have a link to back that up, I find that hard to believe that there’s THAT much cheating going on.

I’m guessing those five are in no particular order. I would suspect Money to be the number one problem. And number 2 seems more like a symptoms of other problems that a problem in and of itself.

So the two of you represent more than 5% of the married population? Wow!
Ever. However, realize that politics and religion and money are the major areas of fights and divorce for couples - having some alignment in those areas wouldn’t be the worst idea.
You’d need some actual data to back that one up. Because differing commitment levels, money, and infidelity seem to be pretty high on the list.
I thought you weren’t married.

To be fair, I did see a list via Google where it was given as the #10 reason, in cases where one of the members was particularly dogmatic or orthodox. And here, we’re actually quite similar. She was raised in China by a family who was on the losing side of the revolution; I was raised in the Bible Belt by a family who… “Well, that’s why we’re not Baptists,” as my Mom said. We both feel it’s how you believe that’s more important than what you believe. I would like for my son to be exposed to many ideas and be raised with the proper mental faculties to decide for himself which is best, and as he grows, alter his beliefs as he learns more things and gains different perspectives.
It is the way I would like to be myself, too.
For my wife (girlfriend, wife, whatever), this is what keeps her around me.
There’s a difference between a wife and a girlfriend. Did you get married in a church or civil ceremony?

They co-signed on loans, that’s married in the eyes of the only God that matters.

Wtf are you going on about? Why the hell does your son think he’s Jewish?

Well, Rimbo’s wife is Chinese and a communist. Stalin was a communist who fought Nazis, therefore if you agree with Rimbo… HITLER!

Viruses come in a wide range of sizes and there are some biggies among them (big being a very relative term here). The largest of them all are a group called the Filoviridae <fill-oh-vir-ih-dee>. This family includes the Ebola virus, which you might have heard of. Filoviridae are long, thin viruses that look like bent tubes. They can reach up to 1,000 nanometers or 1/10,000th of a centimeter in length. This makes them actually longer than some of the smaller bacteria. However, these long viruses are only about 80 nanometers in diameter.
Filoviridae are big for viruses, but they are mere pipsqueaks next to the largest of the bacteria.

Yeah… you actually have sex with a girlfriend.
He’s going to a Jewish preschool. It’s awesome. He comes home and shouts, “Shabbat, Shalom, HEY!” and now he wants us to light a Menorah for Christmas. :)
You are adorable sometimes.
