I think Utah was hurt early in the year when they lost their starting QB for the season.

This seems to cover the basics about why Brown might walk away (or be pushed to go), though he has denied some aspects of the report. I didn’t realize there was a tie to Peterson at Boise State that may explain why Peterson has been turning down clear job upgrades.

There’s a rumor for quite some time that Petersen’s been holding out for the Texas job and plans to stay at BSU until that job opens up. There’s also a rumor that the feeling is mutual; that he would be the first guy on Texas’ list as soon as Mack retires.
As for the rumor, it’s just what it is. Given 2 subpar seasons in a row and his age, these rumors are going to come up every year until one year, they’re true. Broken clocks and blind squirrels and all that.

Big shocker as Oregon beats up UCLA for the first ever Pac12 title game. Now Oregon goes to the Rose Bowl and we’ll see if some bowl decides 6-7 UCLA is worth inviting over Irrelevant State or whoever else.
So. Waaaaay back in late July a source started chirping to me that Texas A&M was heading to the SEC. By mid-August, he was saying that Mizzou could follow A&M if the Tigers wanted. By early September he said that Mizzou was definitely talking to the SEC, and by mid-September was saying “Mizzou’s gone. They’re in the SEC. You’ll read some stuff that maybe changes the narrative, but this is done.”
Same guy (who is a big 12 guy) also said at the time–before anyone else–that there were some problems with getting Oklahoma into the Pac 12 without Texas coming along, and that was right, too.
So this morning, that same fellow is saying that very quietly DeLoss Dodds and Texas are dialoguing with the Pac 12 again, talking about 2013. Pac and ESPN willing to work together more than they were a few months ago.
Clip and save for February/March.
Did any of the voters actually watch Houston play before they decided to rank them 6th or did they look at the stats?
Southern Miss is schooling them right now…
I’ve watched every Houston game this season and this is by far the worst they’ve played all year. Southern Miss is doing very well, but Houston definitely lost this game more than Southern Miss won it.

Not Texas again, jeezus. I was hoping they’d gotten the Pac 12 out of their system but apparently no such luck.
But Southern Miss is their first ranked opponent - I think Houston just got exposed.
Southern Miss did indeed expose a horribly overrated Houston team. If Houston had gone to a BCS bowl against an Oregon or Okie State, they’d have given up 60 by the end of the first half.
UGA is all in for this game. If not for a general lack of nerve across the team this game could be 28-0 in the 1st quarter, but they have to feel awesome about how they’ve totally dominated LSU so far.
Oh man just like that - honeybadgered.

As soon as Georgia made that first fumble and LSU scored in the third quarter I told my wife that GA had their chances and now it is over. It got ugly fast.
My vote goes to RG III.
Man, Monte Ball has a damn good arm to go with those legs of his.

As soon as Georgia dropped two sure touchdown passes, settled for three points on one made field goal and one missed one when they should have been up 14-0, I told my wife game over. Even though LSU had exactly eight (EIGHT!!!) yards of offense in the first half, you could see what was coming if you’ve watched LSU this year.
The avalanche of big plays and head-stomping line play commenced in the second half, and the hyped up adrenaline fueled Bulldogs of the first half were smashed like every other bug on the windshield that is LSU in the second half, bar one worthy opponent.
LSU-OSU might be a more interesting BCS title game, I get why people want to see that instead of another stone-age football game with Bama, but LSU and Bama are a notch above the rest of the SEC, let alone the rest of the conferences in the nation.

LSU is just too deep for most teams, if not all. That adrenaline will get you through a couple quarters and then LSU beats the hell out of you.
Whoa.
30-yard touchdown play on 4th and 1 to bring MSU back within a touchdown (and extra point).

In a just world, LSU would have to be beaten twice to surrender the championship. If they lose in the championship game, they should be able to come back the next week and take another crack at it. Literally every other contender has been given that opportunity, so it’s only fair.
One of the reasons why I’m lukewarm on the idea of a playoff is that it really wouldn’t do anything to ensure that the “best” team wins the title (or even that the two “best” teams play for the title). Single-elimination tournaments tend to produce anomalous results. This is fun as hell on the first weekend of the NCAA tournament, but is less fun when you have two teams outside the top 20 playing in the Final Four. Of course, the fact that a football playoff would likely only be 8 teams obviates this a bit, but it’d still only be a matter of time before the the juggernauts get upset and two “unworthy” teams meet in the championship game.

To me, there would only be a little less bitching when someone finished out of the top 4 or top 8 in a playoff.

Exactly. The only team in the nation right now that can hang with them is Bama. I HATE Bama, I really dislike LSU, I admit I’m an SEC homer, but those teams are on a higher level than the other ten SEC teams. I sort of wish OSU handn’t blown their chance by losing to Iowa State (really!?!?), would have loved to see an Oregon-LSU rematch, but they both blew it.
Sorry for the morons that say a team that didn’t win its conference title shouldn’t play for a MNC, but when your only loss is to a team (the best team in the nation) in your own division and you are excluded from that conference title game what else can you do?
Bama lost by three points and missed multiple field goals, they are the closest thing to a “challenge” LSU has faced this year. I expect their rematch will be more of a 24-17 type game, and I’ve no idea at the moment who I think will win.
I think either one of them would beat any other team in the nation with the MNC title on the line.
