Well, THAT sure changes things…

I agree. There is no question of THAT’s pivotal role!

So, Matt and Nate have already purchased Civ V (and Nate’s also pre-ordered the expansion; not sure about Matt), yet Dave continues to resist. The Civ V GMR thread on BF has grown to 575 posts. Obviously, Dave’s skurred of our TBS skilz.

Hell of a battle, dfs. Congratulations on your Pyrrhic victory.

Did you have to single out whoever “Dave” is?

Thank you much. It’s not the win that I wanted, but it’s better than a loss.

I was slow out of the gate and poorly configured to fight one nation in the game and that’s the one nation that decided to invade. Winning was never really an option. All I can do is make you pay for yet another early war.

It’s turn 39! We’ve maybe been fighting for 12 turns, so that’s still year two. Early-Mid war!

If I saw correctly, the price you extracted was pretty steep…

The relief on upkeep is tremendous. And he got my god when the birdmen flew away and left her there. But those flaming arrows were gorgeous! I think I counted only a dozen or so Jag Warriors left.

Um, What just happened?

Guys, if you have not looked at your turn yet, don’t. I suspect a rollback is going to have to occur.

The game just ended. Someone just won the game on VP, which may be a bug or game config error. Problem is, the whole map is visible now, so if you look at your turn it might ruin the game, even if it is salvagable with a rollback.

This is bizarre. I see that Niefelheim took the Ermor capital this turn from the score file, and it’s as if the game thinks you only need two VPs to win when you actually need four. I’m going to contact llamabeast to see what can be done about this.

Do not look at your turns, please - though I don’t think it’ll ruin the game exactly if you’ve already done so.

That sounds very much like the VP settings for the game was set to “2” instead of “whatever it was meant to be”, and the game has now ended after the first capital was captured (llamascores shows one player has 2VP’s as well). Seen this several times in the past, and if this is the problem here then unfortunately there’s nothing you can do about it (AFAIK) as the victory conditions can’t be changed once the game has started. (again AFAIK)

As a player it’s always advisable to check every game setting as soon as you open turn 1 to see if they match what you were expecting. And if VP’s are involved, always check the VP graph on turn 2 and make sure the grey coloured “winning line” isn’t near the bottom of the screen. As I suspect if a player in this game opens up an older turn, they will see the grey line on the VP graph positioned just above the other nations VP graphs. (ie. 2VP’s needed to win).

If the problem is what I just described then llamabeast won’t be able to do anything. Best person for you to contact is one of the players in the game and get them to check in-game where the winning line is positioned on the VP graph. (since AFAIK you can’t check the VP settings as a non-playing admin once the game has started).

If they report back and say the winning line is where it’s supposed to be (it should be just below centre of the screen for 7 players and 4 VP’s), then you might want to contact llamabeast. Although if that is the case then the whole thing becomes a serious mystery?!?

The winning line is positioned low on the graph (1/4 up from the bottom) and Niefelheim is the only one to have hit it, which occurred this turn.

Edit, screenshot can’t hurt I suppose:

Yep, that’s the problem I described. And AFAIK that’s game over :( (unless someone knows how to hack the ftherlnd file).

Edit - Or you roll the game back, forbid the capture of capitals, and find some other victory condition to use (but then that is likely to result in a very odd, and likely stupid game IMO. But it’s the only suggestion I have for keeping the game going)

Well that’s terrible. I shot llama a PM on the Shrapnel boards to ask for help, but doesn’t sound like he’ll be able to do anything.

I usually check the game settings very carefully before starting a new game, but suppose I could have made a mistake. Though it doesn’t really matter if it was a mistake on my part or some kind of bug in the game creation script, the end result is a ruined game.

Should we hold off any game discussion until you hear back from llamabeast, just in case?

Oh. That’s too bad.

I’ve got my own history of screwing up game configs (hello, Nate!), in the course of which I asked llamabeast for help. He assured me that the copy of Dom3 running on his server is in no way different from that on our computers => there is no remedy short of hacking the game itself.

On the bright side, have you noticed that the wiki is up again?

Yay! I am lost without that wiki.

Well, that is freaking hilarious! Frustrating as hell, but sure is funny. Yeah it’s game over. Absolutely nothing can be done. Well, it does provide me with the opportunity to play a diplo game like I wished :) Too bad, I had just started my first war with C’tis.
