It’s over! There was no resistance at the capital of Utgard. I wasted 15 minutes of my life scripting and gemming. :)
Many thanks to Scribble for hosting. And I also raise my cup to…
Austen! He asked me some how-to-play questions at the beginning of the game, and when farfrael overran him, he dumped his gem piles to me in thanks. I’m glad you’ll be back for the next game, sir.
Pyrhic! Without your talented attack on Nikolaj (Bogarus) in the middle of the game, I believe that Nikolaj would have run us all over. You’re also a blast to communicate with diplomatically.
Nikolaj! What a great sport while being swarmed under from all sides. You showed great class, and put up a spirited fight that definitely affected the endgame. I’m lucky to have been away from your borders.
Farfrael! And Nate for spelling him. Hard to believe that the game nearly ended with an Utgard victory, given how hard you had to fight against Austen and then Nikolaj. I love the way you basically told me to shove my diplomatic ideas up my ass at the start of the game, farfrael! And Nate showed great class, like Nikolaj, when I totally backstabbed the eff out of him. I would have been whiny and petulant if I were you.
Sharaleo! The only person I stayed allied with for the whole game. You took the brunt of Bogarus’s counterattack. A geographical twist of fate, sir. Thank you for helping me attack Jomon, and thank you for being willing to reverse things when Pyrhic convinced us to focus on Nikolaj.
One of my favorite games yet. Just the right length and number of people. I didn’t craft any items over level 6, or cast anything more powerful than Fog Warriors. All of my turns took 10-15 minutes to play. I spent more time communicating with the other players than I did scripting and moving my units. Love it!
Just before Pyrhic gatestoned his army onto the former Arco capital, I was heading there (and toward Utgard) with everything I had. I remember the turn where I was puzzling over what to do, sure that I had lost the game, when I remembered my sparkle horsies are both stealthy and sailors – and then I eyed Utgard – and right then, Nate wrote me a note that reminded me of our NAP. A 7-turn NAP, he said! I didn’t even bother to look it up to see if it really was that long. I just said, “Yup! Brothers forever!”
My little army led by my national hero Vanlade defeated two really tough enemy armies – Pyrhic’s gatestone army led by his pretender, and Nate’s foray from his capital (with 30+ mages). In both cases, his reinforcements had not yet arrived. I am seriously proud of that hero and his army! Skinshifters + Fog Warriors is quite something.
Hat’s off to all of you folks. Let’s play some more.
