Iirc, when they die in his domain they just go back to his capitol making them the perfect defensive unit. You may be able to hold him out of your lands, but you will not be able to make inroads into his and you can’t protect the rest of us from those angels.

just saw my first tartarian in hugin: this is while my people are still making handtools out of flint…

Still gotta try though, don’t I? I’m sure there are ways. The alternative is to wait until he picks off two more of you.

A thug can only ever be in one province at a time. And what’s so great about your – not your, dfs’s, but your, y’all’s – situation that makes you want to play defensively? Do you think your chances will be better after my offense has exhausted itself? I have my doubts about that. Now is the time.

Something else:

I dithered around with Eriu a little and found out that with an E9N6 bless, Tuatha can solo provinces WITHOUT ANY RESEARCH.

They are one-man expansion parties for 390 gold and 22 resources that can be recruited EVERY TURN starting on turn one. They also have stealth, darkvision 50, map move 3 and forest survival. How can this be balanced?

I don’t know what to say to this. Nate has made his choice and he and I are now throwing sand at each other in the sandbox while the big boys play with real toys. At this point even if Nate agrees to a truce, I couldn’t really help you.

If Caelum has anything that can kill an angel, I have not seen it yet.

Of course Eriu is not in Sleipnir. I have NO idea what you are talking about.
The Eriu pony units are purely defensive in nature.
It’s the Vanheim pony unit that you must be thinking of as an offensive terror.

There probably won’t be much response here if you want to talk to llamabeast about CBM balance. I can add a bit of comment. Eriu has been reviewed many times and the balance fine tuned over the past 3 major CBM releases (1.7,1.8, 1.9) and the general consensus is that it’s fine now.

The key balance to E9N6 is that it’s an expensive bless that does little to help Eriu have a decent endgame. There are plenty of basic counters to the thugs. So it’s a great expansion design but not particularly special.

Good luck taking any forts.

This nicely sums up my problem in Sleipnir – assuming I make it to the walls. :)

As for Eriu, I wasn’t suggesting to use Tuathas for sieges. What had me stunned was their ability to own 16 provinces (1+1+2+3+4+5) by turn 6. That’s more than just a little awesome.

However, if Maerlande, llama, etc. say it’s been given a lot of attention and the general consensus is that Eriu is balanced, I’ll suspend my disbelief and shut up.

Oh sorry. I did not remotely mean to suggest you shut up. What I meant was that if you want to join the discussion you are most welcome. But you’ll need to talk to llamabeast on shrapnel or dom3mods. I suggest dom3mods but I’m biased. It’s been a hot topic with the buffs to Eriu in 1.7 and 1.8. 1.9 toned it back but it may be you have some new insight. Please feel free to comment. Most folks feel the thugs should be amazingly good. But not a game winner alone. CBM 2.0 is under development and is likely to have a lot of major changes. Some upgrades, some nerfs, and most likely a good amount of new content. I know that the pretenders are getting a massive rework by kianduatha who is an excellent modder and very solid on balance. Eriu doesn’t get a lot of play and may need more review. I don’t know. Some of the Eriu buffs are from TNN and the change in era can seriously affect balance.

PS: Firbolgs are underrated by a lot of people. They are top notch troops for the price.

Obvious leads by round 6 can…backfire.

Sleipnir…zomg…panic…

Sorry myself; I didn’t mean to suggest you suggested that. It was more like an admonition to myself that I don’t know that much about the game yet and should not be making sweeping statements based on early impressions.

I did some more tests and found that the set of indie types that can be soloed with Tuatha is limited (e.g., they don’t fare well against barbs, heavy cavs, wolf tribes – probably lizzies as well). My first test game didn’t have a lot of those. I guess I’ll wait and see how it all pans out in Crooked Trunk before pursuing the matter.

Yup.

I played Eriu in YARG3 and noted the tuatha awesomeness as well. But with indies 9 you have to be much more selective - in fact I didn’t want to risk it all until I could research alt 1 for barkskin. With alteration 3 then heavy cav and barbs can be taken down. Can always team up two tuatha and put them in the same square to increase survivability in the early going.

Crooked Trunk a CBM Middle Era Game of 8 players.

It’s up.

We will use the land of ethereal squirrels, http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/showpost.php?p=807145&postcount=29. If you have downloaded a previous version of ethereal squirrel, you want to nab this one. It has a couple connections fixed that are not in the old ones.

Remember to use the CBM mod during pretender creation. The game uses the Ettin fixed mod so that site is unavailable. I believe you can just use regular CBM 1.92 without downloading a new version.

Hope to start submitting turns ASAP.

Hold 3 capitols for two entire turns is the victory condition.

Austen - Vanheim
Evil Steve - Pythia
Pyrhic - Caelum
Nate - Shinuyama
Maerlande - Machaka
Tenuki - Pan
Dave Perkins -Bandar
dfs - Eriu

Diplomacy by E-mail/pm and the forum are to be encouraged.

I expect Crooked Trunk to run at a slightly more relaxed pace than Spring Lion.

Remember to kill perkins.

Have no fear of the pony nations. Well, maybe the Van. They can be kind of scary.

Thanks, dfs, for running the game!

Don’t worry, buddy.

My granddad, he used to be a knacker. People say it runs in the family. ;)

Remember: Monkeys will never win because they have horrible PD. I have that on authority and can provide references if desired.

Fixed that for you.

I’m in, and I even remembered to DL the map.

Are indies at 9 for Crooked Trunk?
